Governor Miriam A. Ferguson grants conditional pardons to four Texas convicts. W. H. Cole of Brazos county was embezzling sentenced to six years in 1932. Carl Littlejohn from Hill and Wise counties faces two years for burglary attempted criminal assault and theft. Harris Smith of Jefferson county gets four years for burglary and theft. Joe Mier of Jefferson county pardoned after serving five years for murder.

Paving Talked Tuesday on Hiway South of A M

Residents of Bryan and College Station met Tuesday morning in the office of County Judge A S Mc Swain to discuss completing paving on Highway No 6 south of College. A committee will be named to press the State Highway Commission with a strong case for the project.

First Cotton Loan Made by Brazos Valley Coop

The Brazos Valley Cotton Cooperative Association, led by manager Tom Field, completed what is believed to be the first cotton loan under the 10 cents per pound plan. A loan of 10856.50 was issued to Eugene Field of Calvert, with Field receiving the check. Applications are being received and loans will proceed as approvals come in.

Special venire drawn for Taylor murder trial

A special venire of 75 men has been drawn for jury service in the trial of John Taylor of Normangee, set for October 26. Taylor was indicated for murder in connection with the fatal shooting of H. M. Black, aged Macy merchant, who was shot September 1.

Well Planned Exhibits at Fifth Annual American Legion Free County Fair

Exhibits were well planned at the fifth annual American Legion Free County Fair held on the fair grounds over Thursday Friday and Saturday. Large crowds visited for the exhibits programs and carnival despite other county attractions. The agricultural display featured a pecan demonstration booth sent free by Commissioner J E McDonald and Pecan Chief J H Burkett with state pecan expert J F Kelly on hand to answer questions. Center displays included communities 4 H clubs schools farm men and women and county negroes. Escaped Convict Arrested Sunday By Local Police

John Ainsworth an escaped convict from Sugar Land was arrested by Sheriff J H Reed and officers between Bryan and College Station after a car theft in Houston led to pursuit. He said he escaped Saturday and was serving a term for auto theft from Robertson county. Two A M cadets and a Bryan resident were riding with him.

Clothing Drive Aims To Help Bryan Children In Need

The Good Cheer Association launches a citywide drive to collect clothing for school age children and their siblings, plus adults needing warmth. Volunteers divide the city into blocks with workers responsible for calling residents, gathering donations, and arranging pickup of usable garments and bed coverings.

Escaped convict returned to Sugar Land farm

Capt. R. J. Flannigan, manager of the Sugar Land prison farm, went to Bryan to escort John Ainsworth back to prison after his escape on Saturday. Ainsworth reportedly stole a horse for the escape and faces charges for horse theft and auto theft in Houston, where officers recovered the stolen car.

Three Are Hurt In Motor Crash Saturday Night

Mr and Mrs Chas Schoedel Mrs A C Druckhammer and son Lester of Brenham were injured Saturday night about seven when their car was hit by a negro driver on College road near the Ed Hrdlicka store as they were en route to Bryan to visit Mr and Mrs Luke Patranella. The negro swerved to avoid a wagon and lost control crashing broadside into the Schoedel car. The injured were taken to the Wilkerson Clinic then to the Patranellas home.

Loans on Cotton Held by Farmers Soon to Be Made

Applications for the 10 cents per pound cotton loan are expected to reach Brazos Valley Cotton Cooperation officers by Wednesday. Farmers may obtain loans on cotton in their possession if they agree to participate in the government acreage reduction plan, with a maximum 40 percent cut based on the five year average for the term ending December 31, 1932.

Local Future Farmers exhibit at the American Legion fair earned cash prizes funded by the Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce. Plan Effort To Bring In New Blood

Directors of the Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce moved to start an immediate member ship expansion campaign not as a routine drive but to recruit unaffiliated residents considered worthy. A special committee led by Travis B. Bryan was named to organize outreach including literature, radio, and press outreach while urging current members to increase contributions. The group also planned continued educational work to attract more supporters and pressed for aggressive efforts to collect delinquent taxes.
