Women Dominate Hobby Campaign Meeting in Bryan

From Tuesday's Daily Eagle the first Bryan political meet of statewide significance featured Governor Hobby speaking at the Colonial Theater. A near equal mix of women and men filled the audience, with Mrs. M. W. Sims introducing the governor. He touted local option and equal suffrage, pledged wartime leadership, and defended his administration while contrasting Ferguson's record.

Governor Hobby Rewards A and M Students in 42nd Commencement

Governor W. P. Hobby awarded 50 diplomas 16 certificates and 40 honor war citations at the 42nd annual A and M College commencement. Most of the senior class will enter military service with only two underage graduates not enlisting. The ceremony noted 1154 regular term students plus 1122 summer enrollment. New buildings valued at about 500 900 were completed including Guion hall and Bizzell hall.

Dr Weavers Final Service Draws Large Congregation

A large Bryan congregation gathered for the final sermon of Dr M E Weaver at the First Baptist Church after a revival at the Methodist church. He preached on The Glorious Church from Ephesians 5 27 praising Baptist democracy and lauding the church's offices deacons and pastor. Two converts joined baptisms as the service closed leaving many moved by the pastor's reflections and a Missouri boy’s touching death memory.

At the 42nd annual commencement A and M College raised its service flag as 1963 alumni in military service are counted. The list shows 648 graduates and 1315 former students who did not graduate. R J Potts gave the principal address as Judge Guion and Dr Bizzell spoke.

Bryan and Brazos troops march to Camp Bullis in seven hours

Company G of the 360th Infantry at Camp Travis, Texas, marched 2 miles to the 90th division target range at Camp Bullis near Leon Springs. The 7 hour trek saw no dropouts. Recruits from the 165th depot brigade arrived, including Aaron Hall Peter Scasta Isaac Sawyer and Andrew Rouffino from Bryan area. Sergeants Hanway and Downard oversaw new recruits as they arrived. Sergeant Caldwell began training anew at the youth officers camp with plans to return salutations in four months.
