Maxwell Anderson, Pulitzer drama winner for this year, is noted for Both Your Houses a play targeting Congress. Born in Atlantic PA on December 15 1888, he rose from editorials to a famed playwright with works like White Desert and What Price Glory.

Baccalaureate at Allen Academy Honors Youth Leadership

Dr. L B Elrod delivered the Allen Academy baccalaureate sermon at First Baptist Church with Dr. Thomas Gordon Watts assisting. The day included a campus band concert and the final Y M C A meeting of the year led by Cadet Major R B Thompson and Cadet George Adams.

Fifteen Brazos youths to report for forestry camps

Brazos county will supply 15 of 44 youths for state forestry camps. Applicants aged 18 to 25, single, with needy families, report to the U. S. Army station in Houston. Recruits receive clothing food and shelter and a daily wage of one dollar, with part remitted to families.

Canning Demonstration Cooks Beef and Beans for Winter

County Agent and Mrs. C L Benson helped Mr. and Mrs. John Fachorn on Smetana road can 100 cans of beef and beans. Fachorns found last year’s meat preserved well and provided top meals through winter. Rolled roast steaks and soups were canned today using Chamber of Commerce canners and sealers.

Service for Man Held Best Road To Real Success

The baccalaureate service for Stephen F. Austin high school graduates at First Methodist church featured Dr. W H Andrew of First Baptist church delivering the sermon. He drew from David’s life to teach service to mankind, obedience to authority, and accepting responsibility. Rev Roy S Holloman offered the invocation. Special music came from the Methodist choir with a Miriam Crute and Mrs D C Buchanan duet and organist Mrs Albert Goodman.

Revival Service Begun Sunday at Library Building

A large crowd attended the revival at the Carnegie library with Rev. H. G. Gardner of Crockett preaching. Eighteen new converts and sixteen reconsecrations were reported as daily services run 7:44 PM with some meetings at homes and in Franklin Hearne and Calvert. Mrs. Vera Day inviting Bryan citizens and area ministers to join. Gardner has 30 years as a Methodist preacher with a wide state-to-state ministry.

Business Manager For Annual Named By Class of 734

Grover White Jr was elected business manager of The Bronco for 1934 by the Stephen F Austin junior class. The class also chose Jessie Thomas as editor. The staff will be named later. White will join yell leader George Singletary Jr Ruth Beard and Ruth Weddington next year.
