Associated Press reports Texas assessed storm damage after high winds and light tornadoes. A 67 mph Dallas wind halted traffic due to downed lines. Several injuries noted. West Texas snow and sleet affected the Panhandle while cotton and corn crops suffered in Fast Texas.

By Associated Press ST LOUIS MO May 2 Portions of Missouri and Illinois were struck by a heavy snowstorm that demoralized traffic disrupted telephone lines and sent temperatures below freezing More than three inches of snow fell in St Louis by midmorning and the day remained cold and unsettled.
Springfield reports six inches of snow on May 2, the first May snowfall in 41 years, causing extensive damage to telephone lines and fruit trees as recorded by the weather bureau.
COLLEGE STATION May 2 A twentieth annual Farmers Short Course to be held at the A and M College of Texas the week of July 29 is expected to draw the largest crowd in state history. H H Williamson vice director and state agent of the Extension Service says last year’s record crowd was 5000 with one third boys and girls. Authorities expect facilities to be taxed to the limit. Texas railways offer special rates one cent a mile in each section via Southern Pacific Lines and others anticipated. Instruction will follow past lines.
Jesse Nuttall is accused of draining expensive gasoline from a county tractor. He was tried before Justice J. T. McGee and fined $19.50 plus costs. Judge A. S. McSwain noted tampering with machines and said crews must watch tractors to stop theft of fuel and parts.
Fort Worth police seek two men after a Majestic theater robbery last night. The pair entered during a show at the box office and escaped with 21,000 in cash from two cashiers who were forced to surrender the money.
The city commission awarded a paving contract to Denison and Steagall for continued street improvements. Texarkana May 2. A real daughter of the War of 1812 is Mrs. J. T. Rosborough, aged 87. Her father Jacob Kimball Parish enlisted in the Second Regiment Vermont Militia June 1, 1812, was mustered September 12, 1812, and served until March 17, 1813.
Don A. Spencer of the U S Biological Department will be in Bryan Saturday and after the convention next week will spend four days with County Agent C L Benson putting on demonstrations in rodent control.
The Texas and New Orleans Railroad asked the interstate commerce commission to approve its lease of the Texas State Railroad. The state runs 36 miles of track in Texas and the plan would let T and NO assume control, paying the state 50 percent of net revenues as rent.
President T O Walton of the University and M College of Texas announces a Southwest Conference on Soil and Water Conservation to be held June 20 and 21 under Texas institution auspices. Agricultural colleges of the Southwestern states will be invited to participate and designate attendees from their states. The aim is to develop discussion and a broad program for conserving and economically utilizing farming lands west of the Mississippi.
Austin details show factions in the house resolving disagreements on centralizing penitentiary properties under state ownership. The Young Turney Loy bill was amended to allow centralization on any state owned lands chosen by the state prison board, with agreement reached after meetings and governor Moody's involvement.

AMARILLO May 2 Every state and federal highway in the Panhandle of Texas will be properly marked with road markers showing curves dangerous corners dips and other highway irregularities as well as mileage and highway numbers. W A Finch division highway engineer says work started days ago and should be completed by the end of May. Four crews have been at work on the markers and about 5500 signs were assigned to the Panhandle as part of a statewide campaign costing 250000. A shipload of signs was recently received at Houston.
Ten year old Jerry Hola check, small for his age, ran away toward Mexico to join Pancho Villa style adventure. Officers from El Paso and Jaurez pursued him, he drew a knife and claimed to be a bad insurrecto, but were outweighed and he was returned home by auto with his uncle L H Flint. He said he preferred the Mexican army to school if no El Paso officers stood in the way.

Washington May 2 The senate interstate committee again deferred action on the nomination of C B Colquitt of Texas to the railre c board of mediation after previously approving it The delay followed objections that Colquitt had loans from the Texas Brewers Association Colquitt denied testimony and the committee planned further inquiry before ruling.
Brady May 2 announcement says a flower show will be held in Brady in June under the Brady Garden Club with F. W. Lazalier as president. The Brady Chamber of Commerce sponsors the event to exhibit varieties grown in the area through yards and gardens.
Dallas May 2 Marked improvement in the agricultural situation due to rains in New Mexico and almost all Texas regions dominates the Dallas Federal Reserve District monthly review. Optimistic trends appear in many industries. commercial failures rose in March but remained below February and last year. Drought abated as wet weather aided cotton and grain prospects, boosting farm stock and related activity.
