The Bryan Booster notes spring arrives with boys flying kites and playing marbles while seniors practice quoits and horseshoes. The column urges forming a church, commercial, or industrial league to provide real exercise and clean sport during part of the baseball season for high school age youths.
Southwestern University president Dr. King Vivion traveled to Bryan to address the Wesley Brotherhood banquet after staying with Rev and Mrs Ed J Harris. Other Bryan visitors include G H Higginbotham and relatives of R G Higginbotham of A and M College. A Houston birth is announced for a son born to Mr and Mrs EB Churchill of Houston.
John Lucas and five members of his family died from a gas leak as they slept in their New Windsor home. Four others were seriously hurt in a neighboring house. Officials shut off all town mains while investigators seek the gas source.
From 178 of 2235 precincts in North Dakota Roosevelt of New York tops Murray of Oklahoma nearly two to one in the Democratic presidential primary. Roosevelt 5283 votes to Murray 2752. In the Republican race former Senator J I France of Maryland leads Jacob S Coxey.
The League of Nations committee in Geneva reports a tentative Japanese Chinese armistice agreement at Shanghai and a peace conference being summoned. Further negotiations are in progress.
Rochester report says Stanley G Crandall, a paroled convict central to the 1825 kidnapping of Verner Anderson, has been exonerated after questions tied to the Lindbergh baby case. Investigations into other leads continue.
A gas fueled blast wrecked three buildings in Panhandle's business district injuring Roscoe Vance a delivery boy critically while Butch Raines and L F Rogers sustained lesser injuries. The vacant second story above Rogers Grocery bore the blast causing widespread window breakage with damage around $50 000. Fire was extinguished soon after.
Miss Lola Blair a nutrition specialist from the Extension Service spoke to the Millican Farm Women's Club at the home of 4-H pantry demonstrator Mrs Paul McSwan. Brazos county agent Miss Blanch Brown attended and discussed yearly pantry planning for health and home management.
Dr. J Frank Dobie renowned author and East Texas lore expert will address the Monday night program at the annual East Texas Chamber of Commerce convention in Lufkin on April 18. His talk is highlighted as a major feature of the event.
Dr King Vivian president Southwestern University Georgetown spoke to the Wesley Brotherhood at First Methodist church annex. He said growth depends on laymen accepting their share of church responsibilities as seventy five members attended the monthly meeting around the banquet board. The program was introduced by R C Franks.
Warren Ohio March 16 (UP) Judge Lynn B. Griffith sentenced Dowell Hargraves 31 to life imprisonment for kidnapping James DeJute Jr 11. He called the crime cruel and heartless. Hargraves waived jury trial. A second defendant is still tried and officers hunt a third man. The boy was rescued unharmed.
D. J. McDonald county school superintendent leaves for Huntsville to attend a conference on negro education at Sam Houston State Teachers College. He is joined by state school inspector William Eilers. Both will also attend Friday's conference on the same topic at Prairie View College.
The Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company will host a banquet for over 30 dealers and master painters at the La Salle Hotel at 6 50 tonight. Horace Mc Caffrey from Pittsburgh will be principal speaker with B R Leonard toastmaster E F Yeager to welcome visitors and W H Weghorst also on the program. The event promotes better business and notes 77 000 000 000 dollars in property deterioration without surface protection and a proposed remedy.

Federal judge J C Hutcheson will lead a three judge court to hear challenges to the common purchaser provisions of the pipeline act as applied to natural gas. Four companies seek to block enforcement by the railroad commission the governor and the attorney general claiming the act imposes ratable takings and misdefines common purchasers.
The second annual pecan short course will run March 29 to 31 at Texas A&M College. Dean E J Kyle will lead instruction with Dr S W Bilsing and Prof F R Brison among assistants. A small registration fee applies and certificates will be issued on completion. The program features lectures, demonstrations, pecan propagation, topworking native trees, and guidance for county agents and farmers on budding grafting insect control and related topics.
County Agent B F Vance of Madisonville spoke in College Station about crop loans under the R F C act. He said about 200 Madison County farmers had applied, and loans would bring 40 000 to 50 000 dollars into Madison County banks.
A bust of J. T. Robison, longtime Texas land office commissioner, was unveiled Tuesday at the State Office Building in Austin. Gloria Robison of Houston, his granddaughter, unveiled the statue as Judge William Pierson of the Texas Supreme Court spoke, noting Robison’s 20 years in office.
Final rites of the Texas A and M Aggie varsity and freshman basketball seasons were held at a banquet in the college mess hall annex hosted by W A Duncan. Fourteen players received letters and numerals while Moody from Corpus Christi was elected captain for 1932 33, with D W Carlton providing humor and Charlie Beard delivering a touching close.
Ralph B. Stichter, 55, former utilities executive, was found shot at his Dallas home yesterday. Funeral services were planned today with burial in Louisiana, Missouri.
The Ranch Experiment Station presented to the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association will house a new laboratory for bitterweed and other poisonous plants. Fifty test animals will be used. calcium carbonate sprays cost about 1.25 dollars per acre for scattered patches.
No change noted in the cotton market today. Local spots were quoted from 6 3-8 to 6 5-8 cents on a middling basis.
The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals reversed and remanded Charles E. Fooshee’s ten year sentence for killing his wife Billy near a Fort Worth dance hall in 1930 after ruling the trial erred by admitting a sheriff’s telephone testimony without warning. The court affirmed ten year term for Thomas Davis in the Eastland county slayings.
The Bryan City Commission weighed augmenting the water supply with a new well and reviewed city finances including next year’s tax outlook. It approved issuing warrants for 8500 to settle final payment to Thurber Construction for College Avenue paving and retired 3500 in city bonds.
Babe Ruth signed a one year contract with the Yankees at 75000 dollars. He had received 80000 dollars in each of the previous two seasons and sought the same amount this year.
The 1932 membership campaign will start after the county councillors meeting in Huntsville on March 24. Committees will organize across counties for memberships renewals and new support with campaign dates set for April 4 to 15. Many counties aim to finish early and report full quota on day one.
Members of Earl Graham Post 159 American Legion attended the funeral of William M Ray at the McCulloch Dansby chapel after his death Monday at a local clinic. Rev Jno L Wharton led services with military honors including a firing squad and taps, followed by burial in the cemetery attended by color bearers and legion pallbearers M M Erskine Ed S Martin Harry Estill D D Vasbinder Joe R Wood H T Schovajsa.
Richardson 41 once in Europe Asia and South America is jailed in Nacogdoches for using the mails to defraud in promoting a Mexican gold mine. He claimed the mine was bona fide and has spent about two months in oil field work.
Miss Sallie is appointed district home demonstration agent for Extension Three and Miss Helen Swift transfers from district three to district eight effective March 15. Announcement made by Miss Horton state home demonstration agent Extension Service Texas A and M College. The districts cover central West Texas and the northeast portion of the state.
The Interstate Commerce Commission refused the Pullman Company permission to raise rates for a double berth by 20 percent. The ruling applies to charging two persons occupying the same berth. The decision was announced in Washington on March 16.
Beverly Hills letter says Congress voted against prohibition yesterday, keeping it from a vote. Vets are upset not just about prohibition but that they never had a chance to vote on it. Authors suggest short sightedness by drys and warn dragging this to a four year delay could cost them.
