Mrs George Horner of New York City has departed Bryan after visiting her parents Mr and Mrs J T Turner and sister and family Mr and Mrs George Stephan. Mrs R E Turner of Dallas will extend her stay. Mrs George M Brandon visits Brazos Valley to assist Seth Mooring with his new two story home. Mr and Mrs John Shrrmshire travel from Hempstead to Bryan on business.
Members of the Bryan chapter Order of the Eastern Star held a regular meeting with an official visit by Mrs Beulas Jones deputy grand matron of District 4 Section 3. Decorations flowers and pottery honored the occasion. Guests from Hempstead included Irene Frederick Isora Cook and Dr Malcolm Jones.
In Austin on March 10 the comptroller's department estimated that 835000 dollars have been raised for payment of old age pensions through the liquor tax.

Brazos county school teachers will hold a banquet Thursday at 7 50 p m in Parker dining rooms downtown. Miss Nell Parmley of the state education department will speak and the Stamps male quartet of Dallas will perform. About 50 teachers are expected to attend with A C Dowell Tabor chairing the event and Mrs Neeley aiding.
J W Chapman of the State Department of Agriculture spoke to the Bryan Lions on terracing to halt soil loss. He warned of a desert-like soil future, linked droughts to artesian well drilling, and cited tests showing flood-deposited soil could submerge Travis county four feet. He also performed three musical solos for the audience.
A fire, of undetermined origin, gutted the Palermo store on North Main street early Tuesday. Firemen found flames billowing from the south section and damaged the ceiling, roof, and a large portion of the stock. Fire marshal H. A. Burger led the investigation.
Eight Bryan residents were charged in Bryan city court for interfering with firefighters at a Monday blaze at 19th Street and Oak Grove Avenue. Two guilty pleas resulted in fines of five dollars plus costs. City Recorder H A Burger said this minimal penalty reflects enforcement. Residents were urged to keep the block clear and avoid blocking access when alarms sound as firemen respond. The ordinance will be strictly enforced.

J. J. Brown of the state board of vocational education will speak at the Brazos County Federation of Women's Clubs monthly luncheon at the Bryan Women's Club. He will illustrate his talk with pictures showing the board's rehabilitation efforts for crippled adults in the area and the public is invited to attend.
Bryan volunteer fire companies ere tion No. 1 and Chemical No. 2 held their annual election Monday night. Officers were selected for each company with Pippin Warren Blazek House Stasny Wittman and Noto named to various roles and house rules committees. Delegates to the state convention were chosen for Protection and Chemical No. 2, with multiple members named as delegates and alternates.
A late Sunday crash on Oak Grove avenue left William Spadachene, Sam Spadachene, Alex Corvalleusa, and Robert Schovassa with multiple injuries after their car struck a culvert rail near the Southern Pacific tracks. All were hospitalized at St Joseph's. none are said to be in critical condition.
Associated Press reports New York building operators ready to accept a reasonable agreement to end substandard conditions in the building service industry. Strikers began pulling workers from Grand Central area buildings after Mayor LaGuardia’s arbitration ideas were rejected. Four arrests followed a clash between workers and pickets.

May and others won a settlement of 6500 dollars in district court over a 20099.50 claim related to the June death of Orlando May when the family’s auto was struck by a Texas and New Orleans Railway train at the old Hearne road crossing. Attorneys Butler, Hoyle, and Woods appeared for the parties.

The Brazos county interscholastic league set March dates for tennis, playground ball, track, volleyball, and tennis tournament at A M College. One act play and choral singing occur March 24 at Bowie elementary Bryan with all literary events March 27 across three Bryan schools. Director General Sam Crenshaw aided by division heads outlined schedules and locations.
George Stephan of the Stephan Ice and Bottling company was named to the production committee of the National Ice Association. A longtime active member, he earns a nationwide tribute for his valued services.
Mrs Travis B Bryan her husband and son escaped serious injury after a crash near Hempstead when an oncoming car swerved into their path. Their car rolled over several times and was wrecked, but all three occupants suffered only bruises and continued to Houston by bus before returning home in a new car.
Earle Graham Post No 159 of the American Legion was well represented at the Kurten Community club gathering. W D Bunting, Kurten school principal and new club president, presided as visitors and office seekers spoke after the program. M M Erskine urged support for the forthcoming Legion fair as a central topic among Brazos county Legionnaires and farmers.
Twelve yearling deer from the Marble Falls area were transported by truck to the Navasota river region in Leon county. Deputy game warden Sam Cavitt directed the operation for the Leon county area.
Mrs Edna Shelton Brazos county public health nurse and Mrs M G Nall went to Huntsville today for a Ninth District Graduate Nurses Association meeting. Miss Sue Nickerson of Austin state advisory nurse was to speak.
Directors of the Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce joined in a broad push to secure compensation for surplus tax exemption certificates held by cotton farmers. The measure would pay 992 farmers in Brazos County a total of 30996.40 at four cents per pound if enacted, with support from Texas Senators Sheppard Connally and Congressman Johnson Jones. The effort notes thousands of small farmers await payment after advances on supplies against anticipated funds.
Over 1000 entries were fielded at the Houston fat stock show by Brazos county 4-H members and vocational students. The group traveled by bus, including named 4-H members from Smetana Rock Prairie Rye Edge Ta bor Bowman and more, under County Agent C. L. Benson.
