Marshall Bullock, bedridden since Monday with a severe foot trouble, is reported improved today. Billy Gillis of Cameron visits Grover White Jr in Bryan. Rev L A Wilson of St Andrews Episcopal conducts the funeral for I D Hall in Hearne Monday at 4 pm. Mrs W G Henderson and son Herman visit Port Lavaca to see her son Britton, county agent, and family.
A blaze started around midnight Monday completely destroyed the commissary on the M. W. Sims Jr. plantation in the Brazos Valley. The fire was well underway when seen and nothing was saved. The loss estimate is unavailable and the cause is unknown.
Judge W C Davis named and swore in the jury commissioners for the next district court term. J D Martin Carl Cole and Ben Powers were named as commissioners as the May term closed with a light docket and few notable criminal cases.
The Municipal Playground and spacious clubhouse draw crowds every morning to evening with morning bridge parties breakfast luncheons noon events and dinner gatherings. Swimming pool golf links and other recreation are available at a small fee making the grounds a growing necessity for summer fun.
After a fortnight of fighting 100000 Bolivian and Paraguayan troops remain locked around Fort Ballivian in Bolivian Chaco Boreal. Paraguayan flanking pushes extend the front as they attempt to pierce the Bolivian line but massed Bolivian manpower stalls advances.
Mrs. C. E. Seeley of Millican announced a barbecue supper at Millican Baptist church in Millican on Thursday night at 7 30. The final rally will feature candidate speeches and a cordial invitation to all residents to attend.
Representatives from Mexia Groesbeck Thornton Kosse Bremond Calvert Hearne Bryan Navasota and Franklin met at Calvert Country Club to plan an intensive drive to pave Highway 6 from Dallas to Houston. About 40 men discussed steps to open the drive and designate one citizen from each town to attend a later X ALL meeting in Bryan.
Officers for Brazos Union Lodge No. 120 were installed for the next year at the regular meeting Monday evening. Will K. Gibbs officiated as installing officer with A. L. Darnell as marshal. Rene Allred will be principal speaker at the Smetana barbecue on Wednesday July 18 serving 11 20 to 2 with other candidates speaking in support of their campaigns. An Old Fiddlers contest a baseball game and a dance will follow with Baca’s Orchestra providing music. proceeds benefit the Smetana school.
Brazos County citizens rush to pay delinquent taxes before July 1 as penalty and interest rates rise. After that date 1932 taxes incur 18.5 percent interest, 1931 taxes 24.5 percent, 1980 taxes 30.5 percent, with each delinquent year adding a 6 percent penalty and half-year adjustments based on 1934 progress.
The Brazos county rural school circulating library adds 154 books and will stay in circulation through the summer. County teachers plan to bring selections to clubs for month-long checkouts, inviting all county residents to borrow. The library now lists 600 to 700 volumes, funded by new state pooling laws.
Settlement of Bryan city suit against Bryan and College Traction Company to clear title to land on East 28th and 26th streets is agreed. City gains title to most of 28th street property and full 60 foot frontage on 26th street. traction to move buildings within 60 days and plans a garage on the rear site.
Eugene Maley of Iola died Sunday after a stroke at his home. Aged 58, he was buried in Iola Monday at 3 p.m. He is survived by his wife and two children Herman Maley and Mrs. E. E. Nations of Iola. Relatives from Bryan attending included E. E. Yeager, Edgar Jones, Ada Smith, Willie Johnson, Guy Harris, and J. M. Barron.
Houston lineman W. Dunlap working at Texas A and M College was fatally shocked by a high voltage line while assisting with pole work. He fell from his perch and died shortly after at the college hospital. Funeral arrangements will be handled by the Houston local of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He is survived by his father W. F. Dunlap of Marksville Louisiana.

St. Joseph's parish schedules its annual barbecue at Sue Haswell Memorial Park for Tuesday July 24. Bryan and Brazos County residents are invited as county and district candidates and notable state office hopefuls plan to address attendees at the event.
The state highway commission is hard surfacing the San Antonio Trail from Benchley east to Wheelock with asphalt. The 11 mile stretch is part of a larger effort including a gravel segment east of there with potential paving if funds allow, extending the hard surfacing east to Normangee.
Fire damaged the kitchen of the Bill Jolley residence in the Oak Grove addition on Thursday afternoon. Family members were away at the time and the origin of the blaze is not determined. Water caused damage to other rooms and furnishings with loss not yet estimated.
Bryan's canning plant established in the old Fire Station on East 26th Street will operate 24 hours by week’s end under city and relief authority cooperation. It will first can corn for relief then process local beef, with 125 to 150 workers rising to about 200. A new cutting house will be built between the old Fire Station and Bryan and College Traction Company to handle meat preparation.
R H Bush director of organization for the Texas A and M Extension Service urged a county council headed by community leaders to inform farmers about agricultural progress Bankhead law and cotton allotments were cited as timely topics. County Agent C L Benson hosted the meeting in Bryan where conference participants were called in.
Senator Tom Connally of Marlin, seeking a second term, stopped in Bryan Monday night on his way to Houston. He met supporters and Attorney F. L. Henderson, appeared in good health and spoke confidently about the primary election results.
County Attorney John R Grace said a murder charge was filed against Ishmel Orange 26 for the death of Helen Dexter 18 of Central City Kentucky. The body was found June 12 beside Missouri Pacific tracks near Valley Junction with two bullet wounds. Authorities say Dexter was slain and left on the tracks to be hit by a train after a quarrel with Orange. Orange had been in Navasota earlier this week.
Bill Sparks Coulter Smith and R A Booth of the Bryan Lions club traveled to Franklin to push plans for creating a Boy Scout camp in the region.
Walter H. Vance aged 41 years 7 months 8 days died at his Bryan home on East 28th street Tuesday June 20 after a brief illness. Surviving are his widow four children four brothers one half brother and a sister. The funeral will be Wednesday at ten o clock from the home Rev C B Thompson officiating. Interment will be in Concord cemetery Grimes county. Pallbearers include four brothers two nephews and McCulloch Dansby directors.
President Roosevelt will address the nation by radio at 9 30 p m Eastern Standard Time on Thursday. He returns to Washington from a New England trip and says he will not inject politics into talks while traveling from the West Coast this summer. He signed bills including one creating a corporation to diversify prison industries.
Santa Barbara Cal June 26 Improvement in the condition of Marie Dressler of the films was noted Monday by her physician Dr F R Nuzum who said she had been quite ill from a complication of glasses including heart and kidney ailments He added Miss Dressler was in no immediate danger.
J. W. Lester joined the Bryan Lions Club at Tuesday’s meeting with a new firm for bey an. Mrs. E. P. Arneson performed stories with piano. copies of the constitution and by-laws were distributed to members. Guests included H. P. Black Byron Black Dr. C. C. Hedges and the new member. Cr. C. Todd Jr. won Sankey Park attendance prize.
Campaigner Hatcher I G McGee of Waco visited Bryan Monday night and today to promote W Gregory Hatcher for railroad commissioner. McGee previously taught at Bryan High School about 30 years ago and now heads Hatcher's campaign in the area.
Mrs Lee J Rountree editor of the Bryan Daily Eagle led a luncheon of the young men's division of the Houston Chamber of Commerce at noon Thursday at the Rice Hotel in Houston. She was accompanied by Mrs P A Tardy and her niece Margaret Kelly of Waco and they then traveled to Galveston for a day at the Gulf resort.

It runs July 30 to August 3 this year Originated in 1910 by Dean E J Kyle of the school of agriculture the program has grown steadily.
