Mr and Mrs Oak McKenzie and children plan a Wednesday trip to Yoakum to spend the day with Mr and Mrs Howard Baldwin parents of Mrs McKenzie. Miss Nettie Nedbalek leaves Sunday for Port Arthur to visit Mrs FE J Smith Jr formerly Miss Edna Pearl Ramsey of Bryan for two weeks. Sam Harrison makes a business trip to Austin today.
Virgil Mercer owner of Sweet Shop No 2 on South College Avenue was robbed of about seven dollars and a .25 caliber revolver and forced into a car by two men. He was driven toward Navasota then Brenham and back before leaping from the vehicle sustaining a scalp wound. The assailants fled in a Model A Ford. Mercer gave police description sketches and a partial license tag.
Hornberg of Houston, driver of a freight truck between Houston and Waco, was robbed near Wellborn late Friday night. He said a man and woman in a small coupe with a Kansas plate stopped him, took four dollars and fifty cents at gunpoint, and fled south at high speed. Police were notified around 1 a.m.
The Bryan beef processing program began Tuesday morning with about 240 workers. Roughly 35 handle meat and related tasks while a few run boilers and sealers. Wages run from 30 cents to not more than 50 cents per hour for non supervisors and $20 weekly for supervisors.
Brazos county relief headquarters reports a Texas Relief Commission campaign to remove mucker mendicants from direct or work relief lists. Citizens urged to report working individuals on relief lists who refuse work and accept prevailing wages. Local reports say names, work type, and offered wages must be documented for removal.
Laurance Spelman Rockefeller Jr. son of Mr and Mrs John D. Rockefeller Jr. is engaged to Miss Mary French. The announcement came Monday from her parents Mr and Mrs John French of New York and Greenwich Conn.
Paul Carobbo aged 69 years nine months and 19 days died Monday in Bryan at his children home Frank and Patranella. He was born in Italy November 18 1864 and came to Brazos county over 40 years ago. Survived by two daughters a brother six grandsons who served as pallbearers. Funeral held at home 445 PM and 5 PM service at St Anthony Catholic church interment in Bryan Catholic cemetery.
Miss Stella Stuart was elected president of the Business and Professional Women's Club for 1934-35 at a regular meeting at the Municipal Playgrounds Clubhouse. Miss Kate Adelle Hill was named District No. 3 director. officers include Myrtle Murray vice president and other posts. The auditing committee was appointed and next meeting set for Wednesday, July 25.
Mary Beth Sanders daughter of Mr and Mrs Harold Sanders suffered a broken left arm just above the elbow when a swing broke Monday afternoon. She is reported to be getting along as well as possible this afternoon.
The Bryan Lions club installed Dr. W H Andrew as president with W M Sparks passing the gavel. New vice presidents E J Howell S M Brown and J Coulter Smith were announced. F D Fuller praised officers and outlined aims for fellowship and attendance. R C Franks began his seventh year as secretary and new tailtwister Roland Dansby was installed. Three new directors S M Brown H R Brayton Luke Patranella assumed duties. A past president's pin was given to Sparks. continuation noted on page 3.
The X All Highway Association will meet next week in Bryan or College Station to discuss work on Highway 6. The agenda includes closing gaps between here and Corsicana and between College and the Grimes county line, per a Tuesday chamber of commerce report.
TEXAN KILLED IN CAFE RAID. DEPUTY SHERIFF SHOT. Denton July 3. Jim Glasscock cafe operator was killed by Deputy Hugh Elliott during a raid. Elliott said Glasscock wounded Deputy Carl Garrett, prompting charges of assault with intent to murder against Boyd Wilkerson, Glasscock’s associate, who allegedly menaced him with a heavy weapon.
The annual Texas League of Municipalities convention opens Monday at the Galvez hotel in Galveston and runs three days. Mayor N A Stewart and City Manager R G Williams are expected to attend with other commissioners possible. Williams is to discuss city gas oil tax pro rata at the managers round table, as Bryan Miller of Jacksonville joins for a discussion on personal services cities render free.
Brazos county licensed 61 new cars in June raising the year total to 199. Ford buyers included Mrs. Priscilla S Reed and Sam Orlando among others. Plymouths went to Jerry Seasta and Parker Carroll. Seventeen Chevrolets to J C Webb and others. Oldsmobiles to Gordon Edge and Abe Chanowski. Pontiacs to Lt J S Seybold and P E Driver. Dodges to Ballard Harris and Tom Suber. Chryslers to James V Carroll and H M Jerren.
Fourteen Bryan and Brazos county men are appointed cotton adjustment assistants effective July 1 to aid county agents under the Bankhead Act. Appointments include Hendrix Conway for Mason and Menard counties with HQ in Mason. C. L. Eden Jr. in Sabine with HQ in Hemphill. Howard Hedges to Rains with HQ in Emory. Robert John Persons to Guadalupe with HQ in Seguin. W. T. Posey to Upshur with HQ in Gilmer. Noah Dansby to Washington County with HQ in Washington. others named for additional counties and duties.
A truck from Allen Smith Inc. overturned on a highway near Streetman and Corsicana spilling about 43 920 eggs. The loss would feed Hercules’s omelet or all Olympus with eggnog. Driver Hugo Stasny escaped serious injury. truck damaged but no bones broken.
Bishop Clinton Sr Quin of Houston will speak at 6 30 PM on July 30 during the short course at A M this summer. The address will be on the president s lawn as part of vesper services expected to be a highlight of the course with several notable state figures invited to speak.
Bry an Rotary Club held a noon installation at the New York Cafe with Col. C. C. Todd presiding. Dr. Fred W. Jensen of A and M College was named president, with Dr. W. H. Lawrence as secretary and W. F. Davis as vice president.

A Brazos County Consumers Council meeting led by chairwoman Mrs. J L Brock was held Friday at 4 pm in Bryan City Hall with members Mrs J J Brock Oakies Kenzie Mrs Albert Buchanan and W L Hughes. The group reviewed instructions and pledged regular meetings to discuss consumer issues and assist with grievances under current legislation.
Miss Elizabeth Sloop of Bryan ranked in the top 16 percent of the Texas State College for Women student body for the spring semester. She earned undergraduate honors under the new GPA to credit hour system and will be a senior next year.
