John Parker, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Parker, suffered two wrist fractures a cut lip and chin and a bruised knee from a fall from a diving board at the Municipal Playgrounds pool Monday night. The pool had been closed for cleaning.
C W Redine announced the Kurten Evangelical church annual barbecue will be July 12 at the Kurten school house. He said the date is set to avoid conflicts with other events.
Oscar Barnett and Willie May Jones, both identified as negroes, have been granted a marriage license by County Clerk Clyde Goen.
The W. T. Austin Chapter No. 87 and the W. T. Austin Council No. 52 elected officers Monday evening at the Masonic temple. Royal Arch officers named J J Woolker High Priest J T Christian King J C Pee bles Scribe J N Dulaney Treasurer W E Lewis Secretary. Royal and Select Masters chose J G Peniston T I M Sol Gerson R L D. M J T Christian I T C J N Dulaney Treasurer and W E Lewis Recorder.
Filters and related gear for the city water plant are due to arrive Wednesday. Foundations are in place and preliminary work is complete, enabling immediate installation of the remaining equipment.
Congressmen Bailey and Johnson will headline the Bryan Fourth of July celebration hosted by Earl Graham Post No 159 American Legion. Hiram Downard confirms Luther A. Johnson will also attend and speak. Plans for the event promise the largest Legion birthday observance to date.
Bryan Boy Scout troops and supporters attended the dedication of the R. A. Josey Boy Scouts Lodge near Huntsville. The timber and stone lodge sits on a 10 acre tract west of the Huntsville Houston Highway. Tom Ball chaired the ceremony with Mayor R W Miller delivering the welcome.
In Midland a 30 year old negro woman Rosey Patterson is described as eating about five pounds of dirt each day. Police followed two neighbors to her cabin and she began eating dirt in front of officers. Doctors offered no clear explanation for the habit.
R Dudley Hampton of the Native Development Department of South Rhodesia, a leading county agent figure, leaves College Station after studying Texas A&M Extension work. He will visit Steiner ranch in Hill and Bosque counties and travel in Texas and Arkansas to observe ranches and county agents and learn their methods.
Dr. Watts reports a successful Presbyterian Young People Conference in Kerrville from June 7 to 15 with attendees from nearly every Synod church. The Bryan First Presbyterian group included H. C. Gibson and Misses Sarah Watts, Doris Dansby, and Ruby Mobley. Encampment facilities proved inadequate, prompting plans to expand sites and extend conference time.
Fire prevention contest figures show Bryan buildings valued at 15 300 with 1 200 insured loss and stocks valued at 7 810 with 1 536 insured loss for Oct 1933 to Apr 1934. The Bryan report ranks well with nearby cities of similar size, noting only one fatal East Texas fire, the Longview hotel blaze.
The Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce learned a firm may establish a plant here to manufacture and distribute powdered eggs. G W Martin of Southern Pacific noted interest and a D L Wilson survey showed eight counties, including Brazos, producing about 7 million dozen eggs annually. Cold storage for 10 to 15 carloads would be needed. The matter will be followed by directors.
Rep George Moffett of Chill cothe Hardeman county was in Bryan Monday and went to A and M College to confer with authorities in the Experiment Station and Extension Service. Moffett is a 1916 graduate on his first Bryan visit in 20 years and has no opposition this year. He is a strong legislator active in education laws in Texas.
Austin June 19 J P Hart Travis county district attorney said speedy trials would be arranged for defendants indicted for alleged cigarette tax law violations. Claud Pollard former attorney general posted 1500 dollar bond in each of two cases over counterfeit cigarette stamps. D H Willard of Dallas posted 1500 dollars in seven cases.
Members of the Woman's Missionary Society of the First Christian church met Monday afternoon for a mission program led by Mrs. George E Adams. Topics covered religion and beauty among coal workers, home mission churches, and frontier service, followed by silent prayer and convention reports.
J. C. Morgan and others will hold preaching services at the court house in Bryan on Wednesday Thursday and Friday evenings at 8 o'clock. The public is invited to attend.
Sheriff J H Reed investigates a mysterious assault on Fletcher German who was sleeping on his porch when struck on the head with a rake. Mrs German awakened to his fall and bleeding scalp. Neighbors summoned aid. X ray planned to check for skull injury.
Delegates to the 8th annual Municipal Utilities League convention held two sessions at City Hall with technical papers on plant operation and service improvements. President H. K. Jackson of Seymour announced the event would conclude in Bryan due to heat, and officers were elected for the new year with T. J. Wright of Bowie named as a leader.
Funeral services were held at Lone Oak in Hunt county for F. H. English of Henderson aged 85. A longtime Hunt county planter and landowner, he died Monday night after a two month illness. He was active in the Methodist church and known in Bryan through the Eberstadt family. Survived by wife, two sisters, a brother in Greenville, a son Henry, a stepdaughter Mrs. Eberstadt, and many grandchildren.
Attorney General and gubernatorial candidate James V. Allred spoke for over an hour before about 1,500 people at the Municipal Playgrounds. He blasted the pardon system and costs of crime, urging a binding pardon board and reforms to curb special interests shortchanging education and Texas taxpayers.
Tom Fields presides over the Brazos Valley Cotton Cooperative Association as the government extends the tagging date for cotton in warehouses. The original deadline of June 15 is moved to August 1, with tagging to cover all cotton located in storage.
Brighton police ruled a found torso may not belong to American lawyer Agnes Turverse after reexamination. A trunk with bloodstains was located in Ivan Poderiay's apartment as part of the missing person inquiry. Detectives noted no scars or wounds beyond head and limbs removal and questioned provenance of two London legs.
Scotland Yard intensifies an international search after parts of a U S woman's dismembered body were found at stations in London and Brighton. The legs were recovered in a suitcase left at King’s Cross station June 7, with the body torso reportedly wrapped in brown paper.

Those present included several named attendees from College Station Fort Collins Terre Haute and Council Bluffs Iowa City Iowa with Chas Shepardson and Miss Margaret Shepardson among them.
Eagle carrier boy James Lynch found his blue and white Princeton bicycle missing after leaving it in front of the Queen the acer Wednesday afternoon. Despite townwide search no trace of the wheel was found.
