Mr and Mrs H R Brayton left Bryan by auto for Corpus Christi San Antonio and Galveston. R W Moreland and family arrived for the summer at Edge Apartments aiding farmers in crop pest control. Rev Allen Hinkle stopped in Iola on revival tour en route home. W H Benbow and daughter Susie visited Bryan after summer school at Sam Houston Teachers College. Grover White and son Grover Jr from Georgetown enjoyed a visit. he works with a farm bureau and previously lived here. W H Cole and wife returned from a West Texas vacation noting good conditions and mentioning Coleman Massachusetts?
A conference began in Mexico City on July 25 to clarify political complications. Reports favored Governor Aaron Saenz of Calles for provisional presidency, indicating a possible resolution of the tense situation.
Professors FE J Kyle T W Munson F W Mally and gentlemen nurserymen from Texas travel to California to study fruit conditions culture shipping packing and marketing. They will visit large plum and fig plantations including Burbank to observe operations and practices.
The Bryan City Commission discussed a proposed amendment to Bryan College Traction Company franchise to operate motor buses. L G N Railway sought a spur track on Main Street from 28th to 30th. Georgetown July 25 The State Democratic executive committee chairman D W Wilcox released a letter to Alvin Moody Houston in which he says Moody resigned at his request after Moody joined a Dallas movement against the Democratic nominee for President. Moody had previously resigned and provided his reply.
Ballinger July 5 Oscar Zappe a Ballinger boy and former A M student has perfected a machine for clearing highways of nails and metal causing punctures. It is under construction in Amarillo workshop and will operate on Texas highways soon under W A French. Zappe now works as electrical engineer for the Southwestern Public Service Company. He offered the plans to the highway department.
Special weather report from New Orleans on July 25 notes tonight and Thursday will be partly cloudy with local thunderstorms near Bryan and vicinity.
Miss Julia Bail sails September 9 for a year of study and travel in Europe. She travels with Mrs. P. H. Smith and daughters from Dallas to Houston to board the Niagara steamship for a 23 day voyage with brief stops in New Orleans Havana and the Canary Islands before reaching England. They will study French in Paris under a private tutor and tour the Continent in their own car visiting France Holland Switzerland and England. In London they expect to meet Mrs. Robert W. Stiles formerly Kathleen Sims of Bryan now living in England.
Texas farmers used nearly twice as much fertilizer this year as last, per a statement by Dr. G Fraps state chemist at A and M College. Texas fertilizer sales from Sept 1 1927 to May 1 1928 reached 187 567 tons, up from 77 960 tons and 122 982 tons in earlier periods.
Anton Ernst 58 longtime Schreiner Institute instructor and former Allen Academy music director died Monday night at 7 45 while conducting the Westminster Encampment Orchestra. He taught French and music at Schreiner for three years and led the band orchestra and glee club. Survived by a widow and four children, burial set at First Presbyterian Church in Kerrville with Schreiner classes suspended.
Allen Academy announces E. L. Wickline, state high school supervisor of science, joins the faculty in science and math for the new year. He holds a UT A B and is set to begin around August 15, bringing eleven years of Texas high school teaching experience and familiarity with Southern Association standards.
The Soviet rescue commission ordered the ice breaker Sedov now in Arctic waters to explore Franz Joseph Land and push northwest to find the missing Amundsen group and six Italia crewmen taken by the dirigible in May. The Sedov carries an airplane.

Bastrop July 25 Gov Dan Moody and State Chemist B W Wardlow were subpoenaed to testify for Mrs W W Waybourne in a murder case. Mrs Waybourne testified but was overcome by hysteria as court adjourned for the afternoon. Wardlow to testify about alleged exhumation of J J Middleton and his son Hugo Middleton testified about hiring a Mexican to kill Waybourne. The purpose of the governor's summons remains unclear.

In MecKinney on July 25 the Prosper Texas Baptist church Ladies Aide Society plans a 27 acre cotton crop. Proceeds will fund a church building, with seeds bought from earnings. The crop was cultivated by bands and sons.
