Bryan J. B. Ross Dean from Eu gene Edge's store takes vacation at Kerrville, with Chas Edge filling in. Mrs. M. W. Sims postponed Colorado trip due to illness of her son-in-law J. Fred Smith, gravely ill at Bryan hospital. Dr. B. A. Sims oversees care.
Maurice Schulman of local theatres praises the Bryan movie as best of its kind with excellent titles. Eugene Edge says a ticket canvas will be made for next Monday at the Queen theatre, with firms expected to buy tickets. Profits fund presentation of the film across Texas.
Gov. John Hammill of Iowa spoke with the presidential nominee aboard the special train in Omaha on July 18. He predicted Hoover would offer a more practical and intelligent farm relief plan than any previously advanced, calling Hoover a real champion for the farmer.
About 500 Texas bolting Democrats met in Dallas to plan anti Al Smith campaigns across counties. Alvin S. Moody of Houston was named chairman and a 200,000-vote Hoover forecast was set. Resolutions denounced Smith and Tammany Hall while pledging to defeat the New York governor and elect Herbert Hoover in November.
Louise Amanda Bethea died at her son’s east 24th street home Tuesday night after several years illness. Survived by sons Judge Lamar Bethea of Bryan and Cade Bethea of Livingston and sister Mrs B G Heidelberg of New Orleans. Funeral held Wednesday at L W Collins home with burial in Livingston family lot. Burial arrangements by McCulloch Dansby.
Bryan School Board chairman Henderson will deliver the commencement address at the local public schools closing exercises in the high school auditorium Friday at 8 o clock. The summer session is conducted by Superintendent H L Durham with faculty. The program includes invocation by Dr Thomas Gordon Watts, songs by Theodore Dutton and Miss Marie Graham, valedictorian Morris Kaplan, a class address by Henderson, diploma presentations, and benediction by Rev Roy S Holloman.

Amon Williams returned from Fort Worth with two carloads of calves for sale. Ninety-two calves? The text states 72 calves averaging 360 pounds. They sold at 11 cents per pound, totaling $2,851.20. Williams has long urged Brazos county as a cattleman’s county, now proving the profitability of local cattle raising.
Austin July 18 Salaries for the 17 division state highway engineers would rise from 3600 to 5000 per year and the chief engineer from 8000 to 9000 under the budget estimate for the next biennium starting September 1 1929 as submitted to the state board of control by the highway commission. The commission's total estimate of 15456700 is 9980 less than the present appropriation. The highway department expenses are funded from its own funds with no general revenue request. It notes county engineers earn 300 to 500 monthly while a district engineer with many counties under him gets 300 monthly at most.
Charles D. Henry, father-in-law of Herbert Hoover, died in Placerville California today. He failed to see his daughter one more time before his death as the Hoover special train passed through Iowa en route to campaign stops.
Belgium informed Secretary Kellogg that the treaty text meets full approval after being invited by the United States to participate in the renunciation of war pact. London and Warsaw dispatches reported acceptances from Great Britain and Poland delivered to American officials.
Mrs Eliza Ham Flage aged 76 years 2 months 17 days died Tuesday night July 17 at 10 at the home of her son Ray Flagg on the A and M College campus after a lingering illness The body was shipped to Peru Indiana for interment in the family burying lot in Peru cemetery Mrs Ray Flagg of College accompanied the body to Indiana She had lived with her son for several years in Bryan and College friends express deep regret Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved family

G W Martin Jr son of Mr and Mrs G W Martin has returned from ROTC training at San Antonio and received praise for winning expert pistol shot honors at Camp Stanley. He posted an 85.7 percent average to claim first honors and was awarded the medal by General Bolie. Bryan citizens share pride in his achievement and its reflection on the town.
Emilio Carranza’s body is being sent home from New York by special train after a guard of about 10,000 troops and muffled drums escort the procession to Pennsylvania Station. Twenty one military planes will fly overhead as the coffin is placed aboard, and three volleys will fire as taps sounds.
Bryan-Aggieland Busses Incorported wins state charter and applies for city license to run hourly between Bryan and College. Incorporators include G J Nedbalek W S Barron E J Blazek J L Edge with 10000 capital. The 21 passenger Studebaker street car will run hourly with 15 cent one way and 25 cent round trip fares. Yesterday the line offered free demonstrations and Louis Nedbalek will drive.
In response to the Eagle appeal a Brazos county club girl who wants to attend the Short Course at A M College but cannot afford it has received $3.75 toward a $7 needed fund. The total collected stands at 3.75 by noon today.
New York July 18 Col Herbert Lehman finance director of the national Democratic committee announced contributions from ten cents up to be thankfully received by promoters of the Smith presidential campaign.
Colorado July 18 Mitch ell County will send the largest representation to the A and M College short course in nineteen years. 4-H clubs held box suppers plays and pie suppers to fund travel. Hiram Downard Jr., five, son of Mr and Mrs Hiram Downard, fractured his right leg jumping from a porch at his uncle W O Sanders East 28th street. He received medical care and is resting well. He will be unable to play for about seven weeks but is not expected to suffer permanent injury.
A freewill offering will be taken Friday afternoon during the Wellborn versus College Avenue Baptist game at S S game here. The collection benefits the Bryan Sunday School Baseball League for next year. the league offers 40 free games and hopes to lower entrance fees further. Governor Dan Moody issued a proclamation formally calling the November 6 general election. It lists state, national and district offices to be filled including 20 electors for President and Vice President, and orders an election on three constitutional amendments proposed by the 4th legislature, to be called by county judges or county commissioners.
Miss Katherine Hardy daughter of Baylor College president and Mrs J C Hardy will teach expression in Bryan public schools and operate a private studio. She currently teaches at Baylor College and has studied at Belton San Marcos Northwestern Evans ton IL and Northwestern University where she joined Pi Beta Phi. Baylor Protagonist club membership and praise by the school board accompany her appointment.
Station WTA W College lists Thursday noon lineup featuring Cottonseed Meat as a Stock Feed and guest G. W. Barnes. Soprano solos by Miss Ailen Smith also featured on the program.

Regents of the University of Texas plan to borrow 3 000 000 dollars from the permanent school fund to build five new campus buildings within two years if legally feasible. President H Y Benedict announced the plan in Austin on Tuesday.
