Wrecking Trains Near Nashville Claims 25 to 35 Dead

Twenty five to thirty five people are believed killed in two Nashville Tennessee passenger trains colliding near Nashville. Fifty to seventy five are injured with reports of the entire crew killed. Most victims are said to be African American aboard the Memphis bound/ Memphis bound service trains. Authorities and railroad officials coordinate rescue and casualty lists.

Christian Church Honors J. J. Ray Departing for Army Work

Officers and members of the First Christian church Bryan Texas honored James J. Ray who departs today for San Antonio to join army YMCA work. They held a farewell with songs and talks and adopted resolutions praising his service as secretary elder and Bible teacher.

Brandon 10 Enlist Supply Company Eyed For Local Recruiting

Brandon announces recruitment for a 29 man regimental supply company with roles including one saddler 19 wagoners one blacksmith and one cook. Enlistees must pass a medical exam meet army standards and be ages 18 to 45 non drafted unless deferred. Recruitment offices will be Brandon and Lawrence store with plans to publicize via speakers at picture shows and Eagle ads.

Krus Wounded in Action Among Brazos County Marines

The Associated Press reports Private Joe H. Krus of Bryan rural route five is wounded in action with undetermined degree. He was the first Brazos county volunteer after the war declaration and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Krus.

Corsicana July 3 1918 a letter exposes claims that Rep Rufus Hardy opposed the administrations war policies as false. Telegrams from A S Burleson Postmaster General Washington say Hardy supported Wilsons nomination in 1912 and backed war measures, aiding passage of bills for victory.

Brazos Wheat Yield Report Up to July First

The county agent notes over 200 bushels of wheat threshed by July 1 with T N Kirby leading at 86 bushels and QO L Wilcox close behind. Wheat is good quality and fair yield given late planting. Lawler Milling will grind if farmers plant. A fall campaign urges small wheat acreage to aid grazing and home bread supply. Northern Brazos reports good results.

American flyer too eager to quit Italian command

The Italian commandant in Rome says American fliers have one fault they seek flight. They are never content to stay on the ground despite weather barrages or enemy chasers. Five were decorated by King Emmanuel but details of their exploits were not disclosed.
