Submarine 8 51 Grounds In East River After Tow

The United States Submarine 8 51 grounded in the East River while being towed to the Navy Yard after reaching the most difficult part of its 135 mile voyage. Officials cited a missing buoy and pilot misguidance as causes and noted the conning tower remained visible. The sub had sunk off Block Island after colliding with the City of Rome nine months earlier and was raised by Navy crews. High tide may be needed to refloat.

Brides Grooms of Exper Station Are Honor Guests

Dr and Mrs F L Thomas with Mr and Mrs E B Reynolds hosted the Experiment Station staff and families on the Thomas lawn last Saturday night in an informal event honoring Mr and Mrs H J Reinhard and four other couples brides and grooms from the station. Guests were invited to Experiment Station personnel with punch served by Mrs Reynolds and Miss Bess Spence. Assistants included Mrs B Youngblood Mr and Mrs A B Connor and Mrs Robert Karper. Decorations featured Japanese lanterns hung at vantage points over the lawn.

Stanford Family Returns From 1200 Mile North Trip

Runaway Mules Injure R Etheridge In Harvey

Harvey July 7 Russell Etheridge was badly cut and bruised when a team of mules ran away pulling down barbed wire and posts. He was thrown from the wagon and dragged along. cuts also on the throat. His father Robert Etheridge, returning with him, faced a storm and a flooded ditch but no one else was hurt.

A M College budget hearing scheduled for July 26

The State Board of Control fixed July 26 to hear the money needs of A and M College and its branches including the agricultural experiment stations. The college seeks funds for more barracks or dormitories as growth has stalled. UT and College of Industrial Arts will also present requests and various state hospitals and schools will be heard on successive dates through July 17.

Marketing of Poultry Taken Up At Meeting

The poultry association held a meeting in chamber of commerce rooms to discuss marketing problems. Pooling high quality products and better merchant pricing for quality eggs were urged to raise local market standards and attract larger centers.
