Farmers in Kings Highway area busy plowing and hoping for good crops. The 42 party at Mr. and Mrs. Joe Novosad’s was enjoyed by all with refreshments served by Viasta Novosad Jettie Nash and Ella Blazek. Miss Millie Novosad visited cousin Vlasta Novosad while Hugo Blazek planned a move to Jourdanton Texas for the year.

Smetana Sees Storm Damage and Local Sports Wins

A recent small storm damaged houses and barns in Smetana. The Smetana "Clos" Boys and Girls enrolled 32 members. The Smetana boys basketball team defeated Mumford 56 to 5 on Smetana grounds. Some residents visited Bryan and Enid relatives while others planned trips.

Brazos County Tops In National Egg Laying Contest

Brazos County shines in the Ninth Annual Texas National Egg-Laying Contest sponsored by A and M College. With 112 entries statewide, Brazos ties for top honors as Barred Plymouth Hen No 19 from Golden Rule Farm lays 2 5 eggs in November, led by Henry H McCain Jr of Bryan and W J Boriskie of Golden Tile Poultry Park.

Monthly Egg Records Highlight Boriskie and Anaconas

In November Bryan ties for fourth with S C M Anconas and Hen No. 88 at 22 eggs. V J Boriskie with Barred Plymouth Rock No. 23 ties for seventh at 21 eggs, setting a new November breed record. December sees Boriskie Hen No. 23 top with 31 eggs, a December and overall record, while he ties for eighth with Hem No. 19 Barred Rock at 26 eggs. Also noted are a 210th contest position with Barred Rocks and other top birds.

Steep Hollow Club to Buy A Lighting Plant

At the Steep Hollow monthly Progressive Club meeting on January 15 at the school house, the group heard a scaly program by school children. H D Cuykendall praised the program, Alex Alexander spoke on sulphur mining, and notes totaling 102.50 were signed toward a Delco lighting system costing about 300 to illuminate the schoolhouse and two churches.

Storm damages farms injure cattle and hens in Kurten area

A brief storm struck Kurten Saturday night, destroying J. P. Gilpin's cowshed, killing one cow and injuring three others, and blowing down W. H. Buchanan's henhouse, killing several hens. Community members report illnesses, recoveries, and local obituaries as activities continue in Tryon Cemetery and nearby towns.

Steele's Store and Stone City club reorganizes students

Steele's Store and Stone City Consolidated School students met in the school auditorium to reorganize their club with County Agent C L Beason Miss Sevier and Miss Brock assisting. Joe Cotropia was named president Vince Court vice president Bettie Varisco secretary Leona Deyelia assistant secretary Louis Marino yell leader. A countywide club spirit followed with a strong concluding yell. Also Miss Annie Mae Scarpinato and Mr Dominick Sanlica wed in Bryan at the Catholic church. A reception and dance followed the ceremony as a large crowd joined in celebration local youths joined in merrymaking. The Community Club met Saturday night January 15 with many attendees.

Pioneer Resident Mrs Shelby Dies in Goose Creek

The community mourns Mrs. Shelby who died at her son Will Shelby’s home in Goose Creek. Daughters Mrs. Will Conway of Bryan and others arranged for her interment at Old Tryon Cemetery on Saturday. The note also mentions flu recovery, local visits, hog killing, and budget pledge distribution.
