Baptist Pastor At Navasota to go to Wharton
Rev. W. N. Purcell resigns after more than nine years as pastor of the First Baptist church of Navasota. He accepted a call to the pastorate at Wharton effective February first. In Huntsville on January 16 Clyde Barrow and allies ambushed guards escorting prisoners from Eastham prison farm. Five convicts escaped, including Ray Hamilton. Funeral Service For Aged Citizen This Afternoon
Funeral services were held Monday at 4 o clock at the family home on East 27th for James Barnes Sanders who died Sunday night after a lingering illness. Dr W H Andrew pastor of the First Baptist church officiated at the home and graveside burial in the city cemetery. Interment was in the family lot amid abundant flowers. Sanders was born in Macon county Georgia on August 2 1862 and was 71 years four months ten days old at death. He came to Texas in 1874 and lived at Anderson Grimes county with cousin General Barnes. He later moved to Iola and entered a mercantile partnership with brothers John and W R Sanders. He married Annie E Wilcox in 1892 and they moved to Bryan in 1897 where they resided.
