Road bond plan urged to fund state highway network

In a Bryan chamber banquet discussion led by R S Sterling the need for a state wide bond issue to build a modern road system was urged. He argued Texas mileage totaling 188000 miles, with only a portion paved, requires state ownership and financing to improve grade crossings and align routes. He cited other states using bonds and a 3 cent gasoline tax to fund laterals and main highways, while noting refunds to counties could aid repayment.
