Dr. G S Fraps, president of Feed Control Officials and noted scientist, heads the chemistry division at Texas A and M College's Experiment Station. He has state chemist authority and has analyzed 42 300 feed samples in the last 25 years.
In a January 12 1929 Bryan Texas letter Elizabeth Lightfoot argues the city library system provides immense cultural value for the community. She praises the Carnegie Library for broad access to books magazines and readings supporting high school needs and citizen reading habits.
Notes from Bryan describe Rev. Thompson of North Zulch visiting Bryan with a trained nurse for the ill eighty year old aunt of Mrs. W C Lawless. Senator Gainer asks for sixty days of the Bryan Daily Eagle sent to Austin. Geo Stephan and Judge Ferguson return from a Rio Grande Valley motor trip visiting Cuero Corpus Christi and other towns. Lou Kirby in Dallas excels at Byrne Commercial College. Mr and Mrs W H Buchanan visit Bryan from Kurten on business.
Miss Betsy Searcy entertained a group of girl friends at the home of her parents Dr. and Mrs. A. Searcy at noon on Tuesday. Those present were Jean Sandstedt Shirley Johnson Francis Davis Frances James Jola Barron Edna Earle Bethea Maurine Neeley Lucile Vick Mildred McKenzie Elizabeth Sloop and Ann Bentley.
Ace Pendleton alleged leader of a Southwest bank robbery gang was arrested in El Paso on January 23. Authorities said the group operated in several states and Pendleton faced extradition proceedings.
Coach Dana X Bible who came back from the University of Nebraska with E. E. McQuillen left A and M College for Port Arthur to speak at a dinner for the high school football team. Bible spoke of a warm reception and said the Aggie organization is set for real work while noting Texas A and M has ample athletic material and no intra state competition for it.
Engine No. 761 on Freight Train No. 50 of the H. and T. C. left the tracks in the yards this morning, nearly blocking a downtown crossing. Engineer G. Brown Fireman Vanden and Conductor Turner were among Bryan’s guests as they awaited a rescue engine. Brown discussed chain use to prevent motived locomotives from skidding.
Washington report notes Representatives Rayburn and Garner of Texas along with fifteen other lawmakers as breakfast guests of President Coolidge at the White House on January 23.
C Whitehead of San Antonio head of rodent control with the U S Biological Survey attends the Southwest Water Works Convention. He conferes with officials from the Experiment Station and the Extension Service at A M College on rodent extermination campaigns.
Three persons were killed and a fourth fatally injured when an automobile was struck by a Big Four passenger train south of Dayton Ohio. The deceased are Effie Powers 21 Albert Fugleman 25 and Charles Walker 18 Ruth Somers was injured.
Four investigations were started into the Lake Shore interurban crash near Bellevue Ohio where a bus was struck by an express car. Eighteen to nineteen people died and fourteen were injured as a blinding snow storm shrouded the icy crossing. Teddy Obrawski confessed to two bank robberies before dying. Edward Butler, the bus driver, said he could not see the crossing in time. The crash left passengers trapped under twisted steel while workers removed bodies from the wreckage.
Texas house liquor committee clears two bills addressing alcohol control. One would repeal current search and seizure statutes, enabling officers to search premises or individuals believed to hold intoxicants. The other caps physician liquor prescriptions at half a pint every ten days, facing limited opposition.
The steamship America reported the Florida in distress was so close that its wireless signals were strong. The President Harrison previously failed to locate the Florida. The Dannebaire tanker, also in distress nearby, has jury rig and aims for Bermuda under own power.

Austin Jan 23 A favorable committee report is expected today in the senate on a bill by Senator Hyer Fort Worth giving the state railroad commission power to compel railroads to protect their employees and the public. The labor committee approved the report by 3 to 2 last night.
President J. Z. Martin announced extensive favorable publicity for Bryan ahead of a convention. Letters promote attendance, programs, and the event at Bryan with the short school at A and M College nearby. An article in Southwest Water Works Journal praised Bryan’s educational advantages and local culture, illustrated with Bryan College images.
Mrs. Rebecca Rogers, convicted of robbing the Farmers National Bank of Buda on December 11, 1926, received a new trial from the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. The reversal and remand cited improper argument by District Attorney Fred Blundell.
Census data show 1928 cotton ginned before January 16 reached 13,891,857 bales including 644,984 round bales counted as half bales. The 1927 total before the same date was 12,501,447 bales with Texas contributing 4,807,052 more than last year.

Friends of E C Gibbs son of Mr and Mrs W F Gibbs of Bryant learn of his promotion in the Vacuum Oil Company service. Gibbs has been in charge of Mobiloil sales in Beaumont and is now assistant to the sales manager in the St Louis territory and field supervisor. He aided the Houston territory branch selling contest in 1928 and is credited with sound selling policies and dealer organization.
Justice J. T. McGee and County Clerk Jess B. McGee were awakened at 10 30 PM and drove to the courthouse where Justice McGee issued a marriage license and performed the ceremony for Miss Nannie Mae Moss of Hearne and Dan P. Fulton of Goose Creek. The couple planned to travel to the Houston suburb soon after.
The treasurer of the association and the sanitary engineer of the state board of health will preside over the sewer section session Thursday morning at the Carnegie library.
Testimony before the Oklahoma house investigating committee alleges that Mrs. O. O. Hammond, confidential secretary to Henry Johnston, urged him to provide liquor to a legislator in exchange for information. O.P. Black testified as vice chairman of the state fish and game department. Five sub-committees were appointed to speed work, while newspapermen appeared before the senate committee.
L Stephan of Bryan died last night at his West 26th street home after months of ill health. Born October 1 1857 in Germany he was 71 years 3 months and 23 days old. He lived in Bryan 15 years and retired recently to his farm near Energetic. He attended Lutheran church and belonged to Sons of Herman. Funeral at 4 pm from his residence conducted by Rev R E Day. Air mail and passenger service between Houston and New York via New Orleans and Birmingham began today with the first plane leaving at 8 45 am Houston January 23 city officials and airline representatives announced the service as a new link in long distance mail and travel corridors.
The 11th annual Texas section SWWA convened in Bryan with about 100 attendees at the opening session led by President J. Z. Martin. Mayor Wilson Bradley welcomed visitors and urged them to feel at home. Officials noted potential flu-related absences but expected strong local participation and upcoming announcements highlighted by E. W. Steel, J. Bryan Miller, and W. M. Ehlers.
