Nine Shots Kill Man at I G N Depot in Texas

The search continues for John Hightower a negro who killed his son in law Shep Robertson at the I G N depot in Bryan Sunday night nine automatic shots fired four hit Robertson Hightower said to be enraged by the marriage to Robertson and is described as a dangerous, tall man with a horse and two automatics. Authorities expect him to be in the city sheltered by friends.

Annual Reports Read At Meeting Of City Commission

The Bryan City Commission met in regular session Friday night at city hall with Mayor Haswell and others present. They discussed electric power rates and planned an adjourned meeting for a full report next Friday. A Good Cheer Association letter was read thanking officials for the Christmas Tree. The city mails insurance data, aiming to lower fire insurance rates for 1924 25. expenditures on Old East Side and West Side schools were detailed along with paving costs and recent power plant improvements totaling about 519 408 for permanent improvements in 1923.

Bank executive buys Powers stucco bungalow on East 26th

Stuart L. Boatwright of the First National Bank of Bryan completed the purchase of the Will L. Powers stucco bungalow on East 26th street yesterday. He plans to move in about a week, leaving his father's home where he has resided.

Harrington Lectures At Tuesday Reading Club

Prof W L Harrington of A and M College spoke at the Reading Club on the novel His Children's Children by Arthur Train. He analyzed the author and the work, noting themes of building a house without thought or religion and its fragile foundation. Andy G. Baker of Dallas died at the Sealy Hospital in Galveston after being stricken in his River Hotel room. He was 57 and a Huntsville native. Baker led Baker Moise & Company importers and traders and had longtime friendship with J. Coulter of this city. The pair traveled together to South America Europe and planned a West Indies trip this spring. Coulter mourns the passing of a trusted associate and lifelong travel companion.

Mortgage company representative in Bryan on official business

J Force Morgan of a Dallas mortgage firm, holder of a lien on a car found abandoned near College Street, Brazos County, about two months ago, is in Bryan on business related to his company. About 100 quarts of liquor were taken from the vehicle at the time it was found.

The Brazos Robertson County Medical Association met at Dr H W Cummings offices for its regular monthly discussion. Brazos County gins reported 26 921 bales of cotton ginned for the 1923 crop before January 1 1924 double the 4 265 bales ginned in 1922. The growth indicates improved conditions for local cotton raisers and the community.

The Eagle editor was complimented Saturday with a gift of country link style sausage from Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kurten of the Kurten community. Bryan Fire Department Elects Officers and Plans New Buick

The Bryan Fire Department held its annual election on January 14 1924 with C E Jenkins reelected Chief A E Brown as assistant chief and Tom G Jenkins as secretary. The city bought a 1924 Buick roadster for the chief and awarded badges for attendance while promising an electric siren and race-control measures to curb private car racing to fires.

Mrs Buchanan Appointed Red Cross Home Service Head

Mrs Albert Buchanan of this city is named chairman and secretary of Home Service Work for the American Red Cross in Bryan and Brazos county. She previously served as executive secretary of the Brazos County chapter from 1917 to 1923 and will handle ex service men needs and official correspondence for the Red Cross. Roads impassable from Kurten to Navasota River

City Manager E. E. McAdams and sister Mrs. W. H. Holzmann, with Mr. Holzmann and daughter Wilma, traveled to Bedias in Grimes county to visit McAdams's parents. The car stalled repeatedly in a slough, water flooding the engine, but an axe and pry-poles helped extract it. The worst stretch lies between Kurten and the river, while Kurten and across the river in Grimes county have better roads due to bonds and elections.

Hico January 11 The Tri county Poultry show just closed attracted several hundred poultry men and a large assortment of high grade birds Prizes were awarded by F W Kazmeier of the Bryan Hatchery who also lectured on the poultry business.

The dirt streets of the City of Bryan are being dragged and graded by a city force of seven men two tractors and two graders said J Z Ramsey street superintendent today. The best work possible is being done after recent wet weather which hindered road work.

Prohibition Marked by League Celebration and White House Event

The Anti Saloon League of America marked the fourth anniversary of the Eighteenth Amendment with a thirty year jubilee convention in Washington. Prominent city leaders spoke and a White House reception delivered a pledge to prohibition and the Constitution to President Coolidge. Senator Morris Sheppard of Texas said Prohibition is permanent and a success noting an 80 to 90 percent drop in American intoxicant consumption.

James Sullivan Marries Louise Harris Smith in Bryan

In Bryan at the bride’s sister’s home, James Sullivan married Louise Harris Smith in a ring ceremony officiated by Rev. H B Jamison and Rev. S Moylan Bird. Sullivan is A and M College Texas athletics manager. They depart for a wedding trip to New Orleans and will reside in Bryan.

D. P. Gaby's Mother Dies in Kansas City

A message received this morning reports the death of Mrs. R. C. Gaby in Kansas City. She died Tuesday night around six o'clock after complications from advanced age. She was known in Bryan for visiting her son and family last summer. Mr. Gaby left for Kansas City to attend the funeral.
