Co operative Cotton Marketing Expands In Texas

Dallas January 3 Cooperative marketing of Texas cotton by the Texas Farm Bureau Cotton Association has grown rapidly, mirroring California fruit growers and Kentucky tobacco groups. President John T. Orr says members and non members alike benefit from price stabilization. Last year the association handled 77,706 bales, yielding over 25 dollars per bale in net profit above non member prices. This year over 169,000 bales have been received, with 11,000 new members since last year and growth continuing at about 1,000 new members monthly. The average price for this season cannot yet be set, but Orr predicts it will exceed street prices and profit members again. The association plans for possible 100 percent growth next season, potentially handling 400,000 to 700,000 bales if the crop is similar.
