Farmer Distress Linked to Decline of Horses and Mules
A. B. Hancock, president of the Horse Association of America, told Chicago delegates that the loss of 40 million acres dedicated to horses and mules since 1920 shifted land to cash crops, worsened agricultural distress, and lowered farm prices. He argued tractors and trucks raise costs and suggested self-contained farms with forage and grain could ease debt.
