Kurten 4 H club and poultry talk at meeting

County Agent Beason offered to supply bananas to the first four H club with a 100 percent report. Rye club narrowly beat Prospect for the prize bananas to be distributed at the next regular meeting. W F Munnerlyn spoke in Kurten on poultry outlook for farmers, stressing feed from home production and grazing crops. New Kurten officers were Arthur Yeager president and David Bunting vice president, with George Yeager secretary treasurer and Mrs. Bunting reporter. Community and 4 H meetings scheduled for this week include Bowman Tuesday Taber Friday Steep Hollow Saturday.

Farmers Seek Help to Track Farming Records

County Agent C L Benson with A S McMillan and the College farm economics department will assist 40 to 50 farmers in keeping records. Free record books are available at the county agent's office to help identify leaks in farming. Travis Teams Defeat Navasota in Friday Basketball

Both Travis elementary boys and girls defeated Navasota on Friday at Navasota. Ice Edge led the boys with 14 points, Robert Cole Nelson added 5, and Bolton scored the lone Navasota field goal. In the girls game Maxine Fitts had 12 and June Cochran 10 for Travis, while Rogers and Dyess led Navasota with 5 each.

Girl from Bryan In Play Staged By Baylor Group

Miss Iola Barron of Bryan starred in Neighbors by Zona Gale staged by Players Guild at Baylor College for Women Belton on Feb 3. Barron played Ezra a good hearted country man. It was the group’s first large program and drew students faculty and visitors. Barron also helped direct and execute the freshmen cheering stunt during Stunt Night.

Madison County Fair leadership kept as profits rise

W B Hereford was re elected president of the Madison County Fair Association at the Madisonville meeting. Officers H R Turner J N Raney and T B Wiser were re elected. The recent fair showed a net profit of 526 dollars and funds will fund improvements using Reconstruction Finance Corporation aid on fair grounds and surrounding fields.

Abilene Church Honors Pastor and Family at Banquet

Members of St. Pauls Methodist Church in Abilene crowded the meeting hall for a free banquet honoring pastor Rev. R. H. Marshall and his family. SAN ANGELO February 7 Coke county once famed for jackrabbits should be ranked first as a rattlesnake producing area in the opinion of George Mott known as Rattlesnake. He says he can obtain all the reptiles locally with few sheep and goats in the county. Mott and a companion killed over 30 snakes on a trip to Coke including a cave score and a six foot long specimen. He has tamed hundreds of rattlesnakes and notes the burrowed count.
