He failed the initial exam due to a hernia but underwent surgery in Galveston on December 12, later developing internal hemorrhage and dying at 4:30 PM after a second operation. Crenshaw, born in Brazos county at Harvey, lived in Bryan, attended local schools, and had worked for the Eagle as a former collector and for Pierce Fordyce Oil before volunteering.
