Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce directors endorsed the Texas highway department plan to beautify Highway 6 from the city limits to Benchley to reduce hazards at the Highway 6 21 intersection and agreed to move the Chamber sign 300 feet from the right of way. Officials from the chamber the highway department and local clubs will urge merchants to move or remove signs so the project can start. L R Pletz said funds are available and the project prioritizes safety with tree planting as part of the beautification effort.
Mr and Mrs C V Allin of Waco spent today in Bryan and College Station. Mr Allin is superintendent in this district for Community Gas Co. Lynwood Boyett of Austin visited his father W A Boyett connected with the Railroad Commission office. Miss Etta Peters confined to her apartment by flu is recovering and expects to be active again soon.
Building permits in the city for the first eleven months total $260,040 with November showing a drop but still higher than November 1935. Residents built many new homes within the city and in nearby areas between Bryan and College. Monthly totals include January 24,180 February 8,475 March 35,710 April 34,500 May 29,960 June 16,110 July 21,515 August 26,265 September 26,190 October 357,950.
The Travis Parent-Teacher Association will meet Thursday at 3:30 in the school study hall. Hostess is Mrs Henry Ross and D L Wilson leads the program. G B Wilcox of College speaks on The Social Side of School Life while fifth grades present a special number.
Agriculture Department figures show Texas received 11 percent of all AAA rental and benefit payments since inception, amounting to 141,926,878.11 dollars by Oct. 1, 1936. Iowa was second with 114,169,315 dollars, Texas cotton topped at 114,520,724 dollars, and other Texas totals included wheat 17,203,676 dollars, corn hogs 7,790,825 dollars, rice 2,019,564 dollars, sugar 1,542, peanuts 381,745 dollars.
Ben Benson, described as a negro, was arrested Saturday and charged with stealing turkeys he disposed of in Bryan. Officers say he took the birds two or three at a time.
County Agent C. L. Benson showcased silage from a trench silo on the J. Webb Howell Ole River farm. The hegar i was grown there and produced about 10.6 tons per acre with a total cost of 11.50 to build. The farm now has over 100 tons of first class silage at about one dollar per ton for feed. Interestingly, hill land yields six to eight tons per acre while bottom land can reach 15 to 16 tons.
Bids will be received December 21 or 22 for paving Highway 21 from the Brazos River to Caldwell. Officials expect completion as soon as possible and anticipate the route will be in first class condition before summer.
Texas A and M College in College Station will dedicate a new $300,000 animal industries building on December 10 honoring pioneer Texas livestock men. A 1:30 pm program in Guion Hall features U.S. Senator Tom Connally, Dean E J Kyle, President T O Walton, Rep R M Kleburg, and H F McGill with a regimental colors presentation by the 156th Cavalry Brigade and ROTC cadet review.
Roy Danforth was admitted to Wilkerson Memorial Clinic with a broken nose and minor injuries after his county truck collided with a car driven by Mrs. Dan Wallin, a Steeles Store school teacher. Passengers Ruby Wallin John Buchanan and Ella Merka, Smetana teachers, were shaken but returned to work after treatment. Heavy fog blamed for the morning crash.
Rev. W. B. Bienzehle of College Avenue Baptist Church delivered the keynote address at the Negro General Baptist Convention of Texas Institute of Preachers held in Conroe on Friday.
Texas shines in manufacturing of men's work clothes with 3390 workers in 1933 the highest state total. The UT Bureau finds Texas factories mainly locally owned and growing from 110 plants in 1925 to 160 in 1936 while petroleum refining and grain mills show large state-scale operations.
Fire of undetermined origin destroyed the bungalow of Prof. C. J. Finney of Texas A and M College architecture staff in Oakwood Addition about 9 30 Sunday night. Damage is about 7000 dollars, partially insured, and the house had been finished and occupied since January.
T. C. Nunn Jr., former Bryan resident and son of Mrs. T. C. Nunn, has been named district supervisor and state tax surveyor in the Works Progress Administration. He previously led the National Reemployment Service in the county before a recent transfer to Palestine. His WPA address remains Palestine.
Jeff Bailey and William Monroe, both described as colored, are charged in Justice R. B. Grant's court with stealing cotton and cottonseed. The cottonseed was taken from Henry Bowman and the cotton from William Danc ey and Jim Jones. Bailey posted bond of 500 dollars. Monroe remains in jail.
Bryan Lions Club elected Aggie guard Joe Routt as an honorary member with a lapel pin and paid one year of international fees. The club approved a Christmas dinner for about 40 children assisted by Federated Church Societies, and a Santa Claus parade float was scheduled with organizers named. The Light Conservation Committee gained Dr. R Henry Harrison and Knox Blackwood to address eye deficiency cases, with funding decisions to be reported next Tuesday.
A Brazos County mother with three children faced homelessness and hunger with only $1.20, but Good Cheer provided funds, advice, and aid to secure work and schooling. The agency aims to remove families from relief and not replace government help, reporting prior disbursements of 750 for hospital care 188.17 for medicines and 216.96 for food. The annual drive, set for Tuesday December 15, targets at least 2000 with countywide donations.
More than 100 dairymen from across Texas will attend the second annual short course of dairy herdsmen and contesters at Texas A and M College from December 14 to 18. The program covers herd management, inspection, classification, sanitation, shelter and feeding with a dairy herd improvement association testers conference and a culling contest on type. Mrs. L. L. McInnis, a cherished Bryan resident, celebrated her birthday with friends visiting to extend wishes and flowers. A Sunday turkey dinner at her home honored her, joined by family and close friends for the pleasant occasion.
Police recovered three overcoats tied to recent thefts and found a cache of 36 bottles of bottled in bond whiskey 33 pints and 33 half pints at the home of Herbert Hughes along with three juvenile suspects. Hughes, his wife, and the three boys were jailed in county jail.

R. E. Davenport was jailed in the county jail by city police Monday night and charged with driving a car while intoxicated.
