Friday marks New Year's Day and many Americans plan resolutions, often reform programs. Most are broken quickly, weakening resolve. choose a few you can realistically keep and avoid overloading the list, advises this Bryan booster column.
District Attorney Walls said both the American and Mexican governments will tolerate no revolutionary actions on either side of the border. Mrs P S Mangum of Austin is spending a few days in Bryan as guest of Mr and Mrs Henry Ross on East 27th Street. Mrs Paul Pierce confined to bed by illness during Christmas week is feeling much better today according to the nurse.
W Scott Lynch 55 and Mrs Gene Duncan 36 died from bullet wounds at Lynch sister Rosa Barber home in Dallas Detective John Daniel said the two had been friends for many years No motive given and authorities did not reveal a reason for the shooting.

McAllen December 29. Mexican federal engineer Carl Sifuentes announces the completion of 21 miles of highway from Reynosa to Jabali on the Tamaulipas Nuevo Leon state line for dry weather travel. Culverts and drainage structures were installed and graveling will begin in January. The segment is part of the Monterrey highway with Nuevo Leon funding hard surfacing and a paved section near Monterrey. Wet weather travel is routed to Monterrey through Laredo. The Reynosa Monterrey thoroughfare is part of the Matamoros Mazatlan trans continental highway.
J D Evans a Black man from near Steeles Store was jailed Sunday on murder charges in the shotgun death of Ernest King. Evans also shot Wade Chapman, another Black man, seriously wounding him.
Brazos county records the death of J J Vandiver of Steep Hollow at his home at 4 a m after a long illness. He was 89 years 2 months and 5 days old, born October 24 1847 in Walhalla South Carolina. He married Martha Jane Conlee in 1871, moved to Brazos in 1880, and lived on the Steep Hollow farm until his death.
Peiping officials estimate almost 100000 narcotic users could face execution as the government enforces a New Year cure edict. Mayor Chin Teh Chun says initial executions may involve only a few hundred, while Korean drug dealers who are Japanese citizens are blamed for the spread of narcotics in the 1.5 million population city as they openly resist police and attack officers.

Dr. Walter P. Taylor of Texas A and M told Bryan Lions members it is dangerous to assume conservation is too late. He urged action for 100 years and noted soil loss and the need for soil timber and range conservation to aid wildlife efforts. Three new members were announced and guests attended with musical interludes.

In Jackson Kentucky on December 29 Mrs Viola Wickline shot and critically wounded Johnny Shep herd aged 18 who was accused of killing her son. A lawyer and a bystander were injured by stray shots. The bystander George Shouse remains in critical condition.
Major Thomas C. Harry died in Houston hospital. Funeral service set for Wednesday at 10 am at Trinity Episcopal Church officiated by Bishop Clinton Quin and Rev. Thomas N. Carruthers. Burial follows in Arlington Cemetery, San Antonio. He served years with field artillery.
The College Avenue Baptist church plans a Sunday homecoming with all services open to residents. Sunday school will be a special focus in classes. The deacons proposed the observance, set for the first Sunday of the new year to thank for the past year and begin the year afresh under Pastor Rev. W. B. Breazeale.
