A Bryan resident recalls waking in the early hours to see a blaze near the little mill south of the G N depot, fearing for his shingle room and nearby homes. He notes fireproofing and a vigilant fire department providing relief after past incidents.
Mr and Mrs J W Lester of the Smart Shop drove to Houston on business and will return this afternoon. J D Pressly Mrs J W Sher vill and the Mitchells from Cook's Point were in Bryan this morning. Risinger Degelia and Varisco of Steele's Store were also seen in Bryan on business.
Mrs. W. S. Barron spoke to the College Avenue Baptist Young Women's Auxiliary during the Lottie Moon Week of Prayer at the church on Tuesday evening. Georgia Bell Shaw led the watchword, and Bonnie Walker announced the program details before refreshments. The YWA plans to join midweek prayer services and later meet with the First Baptist YWA to hear Mrs. J. M. Dawson. Members were urged to bring fruit for a community basket collection.
Washington December 5 Senator Vandenberg said European chancelleries and munitions makers have known for ten years that Germany is re arming in violation of the Versailles treaty. K V Casey of Du Pont testified the munitions industry knew Germany was re arming and noted a lack of public protest by stronger powers.
A missionary pageant is set for 7 30 this evening at the First Baptist church. Miss Ruth Rucker with Mrs Charles S Myers and committees have worked hard to make the event a success. The pageant is part of the Week of Prayer for World Wide Missions and will follow a short devotional.
An extension course in curriculum revision taught by Prof. George B. Wilcox from Texas A M College opened at Bowie school this afternoon. Teachers enrolled will meet every Wednesday at 5 PM in the Bowie school auditorium.

East Texas sees clouds and occasional rain tonight and Thursday with warmer conditions in the north and extreme east tonight and a plunge to colder air in the northwest on Thursday. West Texas reports cloudy skies with local rain tonight, warmer in the Panhandle, then partly cloudy and colder in the north Thursday.

A San Salvador dispatch reports a magnitude quake seriously damaged several Honduran villages with no casualties recorded. Local boundary reports provided the casualty-free update and noted damage across multiple towns.
New York December 5 The National Association of Manufacturers opened a two day congress with C B Ardo calling for wholehearted industry cooperation to end the business doldrums and secure work for millions. He urged correcting the NRA evil without discarding its good as the organization faces a fork between greater federal control and preserving American enterprise.
Frances Perkins labor secretary was awarded the Chi Omega national achievement award at a White House dinner on Tuesday night. The honor is given annually to the woman whose work is considered outstanding.
Lillian Ann Stallings 13 daughter of Mrs H G Stallings died Monday at a local hospital. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at College Avenue Baptist Church with Rev W B Breazeale officiating. Interment was in Bryan City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Stephen F Austin High School students J W Barron Milton Merka John Patranelix Forrest Henry Johnnie Mendl and Raymond Lang.
Phil Kennamer reportedly identified as one of five youths who robbed Basil James of Wagoner the day before John Gorrell was slain. James identified Kennamer after County Attorney Holly Anderson said Kennamer might have killed Gorrell to keep him from going straight amid rumors of a young gang in the investigation.
Tulsa dispatch reports F C McMillan head of the narcotics squad says he has important information on the John Gorrell killing and will present it to county authorities to decide whether to file charges. Federal agents are examining the case and criminologist Henry B Maddox was in Oklahoma City pursuing aspects of the inquiry. Phillip Kennamer altered his plea from self defense to insanity.
Bryan Rotary hears Prof. E R Alexander of A and M College discuss U S business conditions with charts showing links between agricultural and manufacturing incomes. He cites loss of foreign farm markets due to European self sufficiency, noting no U S production controls.
Senator Sheppard of Texas said the Farm Administration will purchase 225000 additional cattle in the growth area of Texas at an estimated $2758000. He noted Texas purchases already made total about $20000000.
The Houston Chronicle editor and Texas attorney Judge W Q Higgins died of a heart attack at his home late Tuesday night after earlier indigestion. He planned retirement. Higgins, who had just returned from Italy with a group of newspapermen, was a noted advocate of good roads and active in Texas highway improvements, especially in eastern and southern regions.
