County Commissioners Cut Brazos Tax Levy

Cummings Reunites With Long-Lost Nephew Plan
C M Cummings receives a morning letter from W O Culbertson of Dalhart announcing his son W C Jr will attend A and M College this year. Culbertson, part of the Coon Culbertson ranch, once left Burnet county with his small son forty years ago. Cummings hopes to meet his nephew soon and plans to locate him.

Special Ranger Targeted On Highway Ambush Near Bryan
Fort Worth resident Van D. Stone Jr. a special ranger with Sproles Motor Freight, escaped injury when a high powered rifle bullet pierced his windshield and another shot hit his car on Highway No. 6 north of Bryan. He lost control and veered into a ditch but suffered only bruises while his vehicle remained operable. Stone could not identify the shooters.

Cattle Shipment Purchases Halted in Brazos County

Drowning death of six year old in Bird Pond Creek
Danny Holley, a six year old from Rock Prairie, was found dead in Bird Pond Creek after an all day Sunday search. Justice J. T. McGee ruled the death an accidental drowning. The father left the invalid child at home while he milked and the mother is deceased.

Austin reports July Texas shipments to interstate points dropped 43 percent from 198 cars to 62. Poultry accounted for 44 cars and eggs 18, while Texas receipts of eggs from out of state rose to 13 cars, all from Kansas, with last year’s totals at four from Kansas and one from Oklahoma.

Beacon Light Installed At Peach Creek On Aerial Route
A beacon light has been installed in the Peach Creek area as part of a 211 mile Waco Galveston aerial route. Ten lights will dot the route with two intermediate landing fields and two radio range beacons. Locations include Hitchcock League City North Houston Hearne Bryan Hearne Highbanks Guda and Wellborn. Funding came from the PWA with work by the US Department of Commerce.

Tragic Fatal Shooting on 22nd Street
Bud McGee, a 39 year old Black man, was shot and killed by Herbert Williams on 22nd Street amid a Saturday crowd. Williams, held on murder charges with a $1,000 bond, claimed self defense after a confrontation.

Funeral Service Held Tuesday for Jack Scarmardo
Jack Scarmardo aged 65 died Tuesday morning after a three week illness at the family home two miles north of Bryan on Highway 6. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4:30 at the family residence and at 5 at St. Anthony's Catholic church Bryan. Burial in Bryan Catholic cemetery. Survived by widow two sons Bridge Scarmardo Houston and Jack L Scarmardo Bryan, and three daughters Mrs Ben Patranella Mrs A H Restivo and Mrs B C Cash all of Bryan. Right of Way Proposed For Training Camp Students
The Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce announces up to 200 transient camp youths will be selected for Texas A and M College training. Dean Bolton and Prof Russell outlined this plan, with priority to those who partialed training in Texas schools. Trainees will work on campus, have a separate mess, and may complete college work or gain vocational training. The route and land rights run west of Carr store on old Highway 21 to west of Brazos bridge on the new highway. The project, led by James Sullivan, aims to foster education through a federal relief program this coming scholastic year.
