A group of at least 12 robbers armed with six submachine guns halted an armored car at the Rubal Company ice plant in Brooklyn. They overpowered two guards and driver, cleaned out the truck in three minutes, taking about 427000 dollars while one bag with 29000 dollars was left behind as two cars sped away.

Officers and directors of the Brazos Valley Cotton Cooperative Association and a number of leading planters met Congressman J P Buchanan at Brenham for a dinner to discuss a possible Federal loan on the 1934 35 cotton crop. Key attendees included State Senator Albert Stone and others from Brenham Caldwell Calvert Navasota and Bryan as the drive aims to secure quick passage of the loan before farmers must sell cotton to meet obligations.

Washington August 21 President Roosevelt was told by American Bankers Association officials that banks are ready to cooperate with federal plans for industrial loans and loans for home modernization. Francis M Law president said he believed both loans sound and banks can be very useful.
Ek H Gibbons of A M College biology department will inspect the Mead and Johnson Laboratories in Evansville Indiana. The visit aims to evaluate laboratory methods and potential for a two year bacteriology fellowship for a Texas A and M student. Gibbons expects a week to ten days away.
Roy Nelson Miller and Miss Edna Alice Smith of Bryan have been issued a license to wed by County Clerk Clyde Goen. The announcement records a formal marriage license in Bryan.

Purchases of cattle for ship ment resumed in Brazos county per Mrs J L Brock administrator on Tuesday morning. Weekly cap not to exceed 450 head for shipping to ease congestion. Bryan cannery uses about 600 head weekly, creating a Brazos quota near 1000 head total.
The body of Rev. William P. Drennan about 50, a Chelsea parish priest, was found on Ames junior high school grounds in Dedham Massachusetts. Police suspect foul play after sharp indentations on the left side of the head and an empty pocketbook with a $1 bill nearby.
Gaither, pilot of the aircraft that crashed into the Brazos river near Pitts Bridge two weeks earlier, won a judgement of 04.75 against J L Schroeder Company and Quick Aero Plane Dusters Inc Houston. He claimed negligence for not notifying him of a cable he struck that ripped a wing. the judgment was ordered by Judge W C Davis and agreed by all parties.
Spokane dispatch reports a large forest fire near Avery Idaho threatening 2000 acres as about 500 firefighters battled the blaze. Winds fanned flames causing concern across Idaho, Montana, Washington and British Columbia with nearly 10,000 men on a wide front.
In Portola California on August 21 sixty firefighters were reported missing amid a raging forest fire in the Plumas National Forest near Sloat. It was feared they were trapped as flames closed in.
Washington extended permission for extra loans to farmers in drought regions for winter seed wheat rye or barley and for summer fallowing or both. Regional manager Charles W. Sherrill of the Emergency Crop Loan Office in Dallas notes limits: 400 per loan year 750 maximum from the 1934 fund. Extension of loan period through September 15 1934.
Two baby parades for children under seven will be held during the 1934 State Fair of Texas from October 6 to 21 with cash prizes for winners. More than 150 babies participated in similar events at the 1988 exposition.
Mrs. C. W. Simmons, visiting Wyaconda Missouri, notes Midwest drought severity surpassing Texas. She returned to Bryan after Chicago visits and says Missouri Kansas Illinois and neighboring states suffer drooping leaves dead trees and withered shrubs while Bryan seems healthier by comparison.
College Station August 17 checks have been received for 76 of 78 corn-hog contracts sent by Gillespie county extension agent H F Grote. The total amounts to 5230 with early shipments to Washington. Other counties reported 1400 for 28 of 30 Delta contracts and 11726 for 153 of 161 Coryell contracts. Regenbrecht said Texas counties will receive more funds soon.

In Berlin on August 21 Nazi propaganda guns unleashed an anti Christianity barrage causing grave concern in Catholic and Protestant circles. An appeal to abolish Christianity surfaced, reportedly led by Hitler youth leaders. Goebbels hinted at threats against Catholics while Reichsbishop Ludwig Mueller announced a church drive to cover every city and county from autumn to spring.

A M Consolidated elementary and high schools will open for registration and classes on Monday September 10. S V Perritte newly elected superintendent moved from Gladewater and reports Bryan schools also begin that date. Faculties for both schools are set and improvements on the grounds are underway.
