Narrow escape on air trip at A and M College

Charles Triton of Goose Creek Texas rode in a McGraw Aviation Company plane at College Station. Pilot Ed Addington and a A and M College employee restrained the craft when the passenger moved the throttle. A negro worker named Josh Kearney clung to a wing and helped avert disaster. The plane returned to Dallas by noon.

High grade cotton found to be best in coastal country

Agronomist A K Short and S C Hoyle report August field surveys across Nueces, Kleberg, Brooks, Hidalgo, Cameron and Willacy counties show better staple cotton where calcium arsenate was used. They note 60,000 bales potential from 180,000 planted, with premiums and cooperative gin plans boosting farm revenue despite risks of monocropping and cotton leaf worm damage.

Bolton speaks on talents at College Y Chapel

Prof. F. C. Bolton head of electrical engineering at A and M College spoke at the College Y Chapel on Aug 21. His message from the Parable of the Talents urged using available abilities and resources, citing a blind but productive mechanic as inspiration. Music was provided by Mrs. C. A. Wood with leaders White Patterson and Jones. Attendance was strong and expected to grow over four weeks.

Death of H. K. Cochran in local sanitarium

Mr. and Mrs. Henry N. Cochran mourn the death of H. K. Cochran who died Friday at 1:20 am in a local sanitarium after a brief illness. Funeral services were held this morning at 10 o'clock from the Cochran home with burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Waco.

Two Cars Collide at Wash ington Avenue and Twenty Fourth

Collision late Sunday afternoon at the junction of Wash ing Avenue and Twenty Fourth Street involved two cars. Johnnie Philips, service car driver at the Texas service station, attempted a turn and struck another vehicle, causing a smashed fender a broken front axle and minor damages.

Bryan Firemen Host Banquet at Fin-Feather Club

About twenty five Bryan firemen plus guests gathered at the Fin-Feather Club Wednesday night for a big banquet with BBQ mutton beef and Budweiser. Chief C E Jenkins presided Mayor Tyler Haswell sat with officials as guests and the event ended with cigars and jokes on the porch.

Man accidentally shot during hunt near Hearne

Leonard Nunley was accidentally shot in the back by a boy companion while hunting at Wicks Lake. He was taken to his Elliott home and the injury is not serious.

Democratic Meeting in Galveston Ends in Torchlight Parade

Fifty years ago today in Galveston a large Democratic meeting closed with a torch light procession a brass band bonfire fireworks and cannon. Captain T. J. Beall was loudly applauded for denouncing Governor Davis as a tyrant usurper and liar. Major Davis of Brazos county also spoke at length.

Walker Martin families return from vacation

C. G. Walker and Cliff Martin with their families returned Friday afternoon from Galveston. They left August 11 by car while other members traveled by train. They secured a cottage on the Boulevard enjoyed a steady breeze and swam in the Gulf daily.

Reverend Calmes Accepts Pastorate at Bryan Christian Church

The First Christian church of Bryan has called Rev. C. N. Calmes of Benjamin Texas as pastor and he has accepted. His family will arrive around September 1 and he will preach his first sermon September 4. The community applauds his culture education and Christian leadership and he will focus on youth work.

Death for Bryan High Instructor's Son at Devine

Roland McAnelly nine year old son of Mr and Mrs R R McAnelly of Devine died Tuesday from a tonsillitis relapse. The Bryan High School instructor was away eight to nine years but remembered by many. Funeral held Wednesday at First Baptist Church with Rev F F Bledsoe officiating and burial at Evergreen Cemetery.
