Malaria Transmission Explained by State Health Official
Austin Texas August 16 Malaria is caused by tiny organisms in the blood and transmitted only by the bite of Anopheles mosquitoes. The disease travels from person to mosquito to person, not by food or water. Mosquitoes acquire parasites from infected blood, and after 7 to 14 days the parasites appear in saliva and pass to humans. Four points of attack are reducing Anopheles mosquitoes, screening to keep mosquitoes away, preventing mosquitoes from becoming infected, and immunizing people.
