Poem of The Lord's Prayer Found on Civil War Battlefield

An old satin poem clipped from a battlefield site in South Carolina during the Civil War bears The Lord's Prayer fitted as text. It was found by the brother of Mrs. Ha Smythe of Kendallville Indiana and dated 1823 with Charleston South Carolina or Dallas News references.

Bridge washed out by flood ends in two counties

Flood waters of the Big Brazos River eroded the middle 220 feet of the Jones Bridge leaving end spans standing and cutting off Bryan from Burleson county traffic. Loss estimated around 30000 dollars with no injuries. Debates consider pontoon or temporary bridges and possible soldier engineering aid from San Antonio.

Prospect School Meeting Examines Consolidation Prospects

County Superintendent D. J. McDonald led a Saturday night session at Prospect school to discuss consolidating Prospect and Wixon districts, a school bond election, and a new four room building possibly with a rural high school course. Lamar Bethea opposed consolidation while J. T. Maloney spoke on education benefits.

County School Trustees to Meet Next Saturday in Regular Session

The County Board of School Trustees will meet next Saturday May 1 in regular session at the court house in Bryan. County Superintendent D. J. McDonald urged all trustees to attend as important business is on the agenda including the defining of boundaries of two districts and other special matters.

Edge School Bond Election Passes With State Aid Discount

Edge School District won the bond election held last Saturday April 24 and will receive 800 in state aid next year as the district remains financially sound. Voters backed the measure by a comfortable margin in a progressive district, with residents linking school quality to community growth and rising land values.

Fourteen Pound Cabbage Grown By V. J. Fridel

Fourteen pound cabbage raised by V. J. Fridel in the Kurten community was shown at the Eagle office by Joe Regmund. Regmund also had a twelve pound head in his car. Fridel tended ten rows of cabbage about thirty yards long and expected to yield about fifteen hundred pounds from the tract.

Fire Damages Harvey Home of Mrs. W. P. Jones

A fire broke out in a single room of the W. P. Jones residence at Harvey Sunday night around six o clock. The blaze was extinguished quickly and left the room and interior smoke damaged. The cause is unknown. The home housed Mrs. W. P. Jones and family, including Coy Jones who was treated at Bryan Hospital for smoke and heat but is said to be only slightly injured and back home.

W. S. Howell Donates Wall Plaque for Freshman Field Crops Judging

College Station April 23 The Agronomy Department at A and M College Texas received a wall plaque donated by W S Howell of Bryan to engrave each year's winner of the Freshman Field Crops Judging Contest. The current plaque already lists 1926 winner R J Buchanan of Kurten Texas.

Officers And Teachers Meet At Longs Cafe

At Long's Cafe the First Baptist Sunday School officers and teachers held their regular monthly council. Crystal baskets adorned seven tables for the guests of the hour as seven courses were served. Charles Crawford presided over the business session, with minutes read by J B Locke and treasurer N F Lockerd reporting. Monthly department reports showed growth and good work, Mrs Sam M Hunter gave her impressions.

Brazos county organizers form a local ISAak Walton League of America chapter aiming to create a 10 000 acre game preserve with reservoirs stocked for angling. Two Bryan Couples Move to Beaumont for New Homes
