In March fifth month standings V J Boriskie Barred Plymouth Rock Hen No 23 remains at the top of the Ninth Texas National Egg Laying Contest sponsored by A and M College Poultry Husbandry. The hen holds a five month record of 136 eggs and is six ahead of the prior five month record with fifteen more than the best previous heavy breed. Villa Maria Honored At Alumnae Meet

Mother Mary John Superior of Villa Maria Academy led delegates to the International Federation of Catholic Alumnae from Dallas and reported on state alumnae activities. Allen Academy Receives Honor Rating Inspection

Allen Academy is one of 23 U S schools to undergo Honor Rating Inspection by War Department staff. Texas Cotton Crop Decline in 1925 Across Twelve Counties

Texas saw a general rise in cotton output in 1925 except for a restricted twelve county area where production plummeted from 518 418 bales in 1924 to 73 752 in 1925, an 86 percent drop. statewide, 82 of 190 counties posted higher totals while 18 of the top 50 counties produced more than 50 000 bales each.

Ben Rena Buried After Funeral at Bryan

Ben Rena aged 57 died at the family home four miles west of Bryan on Sunday morning April 18. Funeral services were at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bryan Monday at 10. Interment followed at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Survived by three sons Tony Lee and Joe Rena all of Bryan and two daughters Mrs Joe Mongoose of Houston and Mrs B J Geillus of Bryan. McCulloch Gordon Company handled arrangements.

Sam M Johnson Visits Bryan After 14 Years Detour

Sam M Johnson of Los Angeles arrived in Bryan after visiting relatives in San Antonio. He plans one more day in Bryan on business and rode the train from San Antonio to Bryan leaving his car there due to road conditions. Johnson praised Bryan's improvement since a 14 year absence. his father Dr James R Johnson was long deceased.

At Bryan Board of Education meeting in city hall President F L Henderson presiding Madison Hall was re elected as superintendent of Bryan city schools. Deep Drilling Planned for Carlos Field Grimes County

Plans and contracts are set to drill a new test well in Grimes County's Carlos Field, about eighteen miles north of Navasota. Elmer G. Johnson serves as trustee for investors led by J. A. Germany and F. Julius Fohs of New York, with Newblock Oil Company to start within ten days and reach 3,000 feet unless oil is found sooner.

New Brick Church To Replace Burned Down Bryan Structure

A meeting of St Anthony’s Italian Catholic parishioners in Bryan approved building a brick church near $50,000 to replace the fire-destroyed wooden structure. The site awaits Bishop approval, possibly using the old foundation. The committee raised $2,750 on the spot with donors listed, as aims to serve the Italian congregation proceed.

Millican Tumbling Show a Big Local Hit

An exhibition by 16 Millican school students aged 6 to 16 in the high school auditorium drew a large crowd and raised 12.50 from admissions while free seats were offered. Proceeds will fund diplomas for the senior class and cover athletic goods deficits. The show may move to Navasota for further performances.

August Straub Kills Large Rattler in Burleson County

August Straub of Wellborn killed a rattlesnake five feet long on Round Lake Pasture in Burleson county. The snake measured six feet eight inches with 11 rattles and a button. It ranks as one of the largest rattlers seen in the area in recent years.
