Deadly Florida Keys storm sinks houseboat with 150 aboard

Oct 22 Key West reports survivors from Florida East Coast railway work along the keys recount a wrecked houseboat on the Gulf. Houseboat No. 4 carried 150 men and broke up after a 5 AM strike, washing dozens to their deaths as waves swallowed the vessel. Dusenbury, rescued after clinging to timber, confirms 49 survivors were brought to Key West while other steamers recovered bodies.

Harnish and McClintock Return, Await Recital Date

Harnish and Olive McClintock, teachers at the Texas Christian University of Waco, returned yesterday after visiting Mr and Mrs B F Leman. Harnish, a vocal teacher, sang at the Christian church Sunday and was favorably received, leading to an invitation for a recital here with Miss McClintock, a reader, to be announced later.

London October 22 P MacFadyen head of P MacFadyen Co bankers whose suspension was announced committed death by self destruction. He walked from his bank to a City and South London Railway tunnel and lay down in front of an oncoming train. A mutilated body was found identified as MacFadyen amid rumors linking the firm’s failure to the cotton market. A note on an elephant ranch near Valentine Texas reports four females and a male arriving with plans for more ships in weeks.

Severe storm ravages Salt Lake City area and forces transit halt

A wind storm battered Salt Lake City and nearby towns with speeds up to fifty two miles per hour. It caused three serious injuries, widespread property damage, the Utah Packing plant fire with losses around 250000, and disruption of trains and streetcar and electric services. Ogden reported a fatality and substantial property losses from wind and debris.
