Turmoil in Vladivostok as mobs loot theaters and hotels
The Vladivostok outbreak began Sunday after the Russian fleet departed. Rioters pillaged the Golden Horn hotel and Chinese quarters, set fires, and destroyed seventy buildings. Troops fired on the crowd, killing many as 24 ships in harbor ferried inhabitants. The American consul reported efforts to pacify the mob and planned to remain aboard a steamer.
