Six Die as Dynamite Blast Hits New York Excavation
In New York an explosion at a building site opposite the Waldorf Astoria kills six men and injures over a dozen others. Workmen restarting a partly drilled hole containing dynamite triggered the blast. About twenty men were near the hole and eighty were employed in the overall excavation.

Conductor Killed in Waurika Rail Wreck
At 4 o clock Tuesday morning on the Chicago Rock Island and Gulf line near Waurika conductor Jack Carnes was instantly killed and a brakeman fatally injured as a long freight wrecked. The caboose was burned to ashes and track torn up for 100 yards. Carnes, of Fort Worth, failed to flag an approaching freight after the No 11 southbound passenger was stopped at the depot.
