A break in the Hollybrook plantation rope line blocks access to the depot at Lacrosse. All approaches to the depot will not be mended, and the arrangement remains in place for the block.
A major levee breach at Hollybrook plantation in East Carroll parish threatens extensive cotton land as waters from the Mississippi drain through a 500 foot crevasse. Officials will not mend the 18 foot high levee but aim to hold ends while the flood reaches several parishes before receding.
A west wind drove Mississippi River waves against the Friars Point levee for a day causing fear of a breach. Crews sacked the embankment and worked to hold the line as the log boom broke and the levee began to cave in spots. Weather bulletin noted no major flood changes beyond continued river level falls at Vicksburg and New Orleans.
Eighteen passengers and two crew members of the steamer Albion River were landed at San Francisco after the vessel ran aground on rocks at Bodega Point. Seven men remained aboard signaling distress as gale winds complicate the rescue conducted by the Point Bogita life saving crew and the revenue cutter McCullough nearby.

One Fraternity man, George Washington Tuttle, a Union College graduate and founder of Psi Upsilon in 1833, has died at his Bath New York home. The only remaining surviving founder is General Edward Martindale of San Diego California.
The Korea departs from San Francisco for Honolulu and the Orient carrying 1,000,000 in gold for Honolulu and 250,000 in silver for Japan. It will stop at Manila with Vice Governor Luke E. Wright of the Philippines, his wife, and secretary aboard. Also reported is the death of the Russian consul at Mitrovitza after a back-shot by an Albanian sentry.
