In New Rochelle on April 3 two men, believed Mafia members, attempted to abduct Thomas Baletto, a wealthy banker. They forced him at knifepoint, he fired from a window, police jailed two in Mount Vernon, Antonio Raefaelo and Louis Reth, who were held for trial amid Baletto’s suspicion of a targeted punishment. In Chicago, Roosevelt drew 6000 people at the Auditorium as he spoke on the Monroe doctrine and Philippine possessions, with strong crowds, police, and an impromptu reception afterward.

George Cunningham of Gloucester City receives a personal letter from President Roosevelt praising American citizenship after the birth of his triplets. The president sent three photographs and extended best wishes, following a physician's note. At Madison, Wisconsin, Roosevelt spoke to the legislature and 700 guests, then a second public address and a reception followed.
Ella Gray, a colored woman from Roanoke, received sixteen years in the penitentiary after a ten day trial at Abingdon. She was convicted of killing Charles M. Chester on January 22 in Abingdon where Chester, a Roanoke business locator, was found dead in Gray’s yard. She claimed Chester criminally assaulted her.
