The piece counsels a young housekeeper to resist social pressure and public expense demands. It emphasizes moral courage, financial self reliance, and staying within one’s means without letting others dictate personal choices or purse strings.
Osborn’s advertises a special sale on Weber wagons valid from today through Saturday September 30. A three inch wagon is priced at 65 dollars while a two and three quarter inch wagon costs 62.50 dollars. Customers are urged to mention the paper when purchasing.
President Taft will spend September 30 at the Missouri State Fair as guest of Governor Hadley and the Missouri Board of Directors. He will speak at 10 30 a m in the Live Stock Pavilion and attend the Great Live Stock parade in the grand stand. Aeroplanes will be in the air with Hugh Robinson as star aviator. Free camp grounds will welcome thousands of visitors to Sedalia.
Browning faces Purdin on September 29 and Linneus meets Purdin on September 30 at the street fair. Both teams have strengthened and will play fast ball with admission set at 25 cents.
A local fast pitch game saw White Oaks defeat Purdin 2 to 1 in the ninth inning. A sizable crowd watched two strengthened teams display a keen contest on the local diamond.
Peters Produce Co offers cash for poultry and eggs as part of a local market exchange. The deal highlights flexible payment for farmers and producers seeking quick turnover of live stock and eggs.
The Santa Fe Railroad funds four months of study at the University of Missouri College of Agriculture for a resident of each of the railroad’s forty five Missouri counties. A Linn County winner will be chosen via a corn show in Marceline on Oct. 28, 1911, with a $50 cash stipend to offset expenses. Eligible ages 18 to 40, diverse corn and crop entries accepted. entries close the day before the show.
Col. P. M. Gross, a buyer of national reputation, will attend events in Milan on Friday October 6 and in the local area Saturday October 7. He will purchase mules aged over four to under one hundred and all kinds of horses including fat mares and plug mares or geldings, with strict weight ranges and a demand for 100 fat mares and 25 fat plug mares or geldings.
A circular cement wall block listing two dozen units at 3 cents each is advertised for walling wells. The notice invites readers to inspect the product, signed by Chas Haggard.
Produced three crops of alfalfa hay in Linn county. Ward Pierce delivered to carrier D L Cady on Monday from the third cutting. Pierce believes another crop can be cut in 10 days. Ex cutting yields about one ton per acre and forty dollars per acre pays good interest.

Friday the Browning Creamery Company formed a new board of directors in this city. Officers named are R. H. Hamilton as president F. J. Alspach as vice president Joe Nickell as treasurer and secretary with R. H. Hamilton J. J. Smith and Joe Nickell as managers. The board aims to make the creamery financially successful and seeks stockholder and dairyman cooperation.
Last Saturday a tie train distributing ties passed through Purdin when crowding led to Floyd Ogle losing his grip on a box car footboard. He fell to the ground but escaped serious injury after an extra effort saved him, enduring only a rough shake and a three mile walk. He plans to be more careful.
Sr and Mrs J C Higein of Hart Line Washington arrived Friday to visit Alfred Browning and family and relatives. They could not meet all their kin yet and hope weather will permit more visits to see everyone.
