Shafter Community Fair Draws Big Crowd

The eleventh annual Shafter community and school fair drew a large audience last Saturday under warm, breezy weather. Schools from West Liberty, Fairview, Russell, Pleasant Shade, Shafter, Climax, Light and Tharp showcased exhibits, with parades, a Browning band performance, livestock judging, and a slow mule race. Awards honored best educational displays, comical turnouts, parade representation, and various riding and driving feats, highlighting community pride and volunteer effort led by Elva Crookshanks and Lloyd E Bowyer.

Child Eudema A. Gilbert Dies at Age 10 in Bear Branch Community

The obituary notes Eudema Alice Gilbert born August 12 1916 died September 27 1925 aged 10 years 1 month and 5 days. She leaves father mother one brother Charley George and sister Ona Ethelyler among many relatives. Funeral held at Bear Branch church conducted by Rev James L. George Ross Civil War veteran dies in Browning Missouri

George Ross born November 22 1841 in Lawrenceburg Indiana died at his Browning Missouri home after living in Linn County since the Civil War. He married Mary Cassity in 1869 no children, Mary died 1916, later married Jane Gooch in 1917. He enlisted at the war start and served full term. Survived by wife two sisters and one brother. Funeral conducted at home Tuesday at 1 pm by Elder R A Zahn. Interment Jenkins cemetery.
