Gumption on The Farm from October Farm Journal
Practical autumn farming notes urge gathering pumpkins and squash before frost, storing corn properly, burning cabbage stumps and asparagus tops, and feeding beds with stable manure. Dress rye for spring potatoes, ensure straight corn rows, build a sturdy line fence, and store potatoes in dry conditions to avoid rot while holding grain for better prices.
Town Notes and Changes at Local Firms and Church
Chas Cochran and family arrived Friday to occupy the A. M. Summers property while Cochran takes charge of the telephone system. Rev. W. C. G. Potter and evangelist J. W. Kimbrell closed a successful Bear Branch church series with 52 new members and Potter receives a salary increase. J. M. Moore traded jewelry and millinery stock to C Adams of Linneus for a farm south of that city and Adams will move the stock to Linneus.
