The Purdin Womens Club met with hostess Mrs. Hattie Schrock on Wednesday October 4 at 2 pm. President Mrs. Minnie Street led. Lois Schrock acted as secretary. Lois and Susie Gooch won contests. fourteen members attended with several absent on illness or travel. visitors included Mrs. Alice Urbach Reber of Dodge City and Mrs. Maurice Schrock from Kansas City. Refreshments were provided by Mrs. Schrock with help from Lois and Jean.
Sunday, October 15, a large gathering of the Hooker family met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Hooker in Browning. Relatives from Lineville Iowa Marceline Laclede Jacksonville Maine and local areas attended a cafeteria style noon dinner and afternoon visit.
Captain R C Bennett arrived home after more than two years overseas in the China India Burma theater. His parents Mr. and Mrs. Lafe Bennett received a surprise telephone call Wednesday from their son confirming he would visit soon, bringing joy to the family.

The local PEO chapter met at Mrs. Herbert Hamilton's country home on Wednesday October 11 with thirteen members present. Mrs. Hamilton gave a book report on The Green Goose and Mrs. Ernest Linhart read an article about Gen Dwight Eisenhower's family and home. Guests enjoyed fruit salad cake and coffee.
A pleasant Sunday gathering at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Walker celebrated Mrs. Walker's birthday, observed Friday October 14. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Marlin Woodside and family, Mrs. Clayton Harris, Mr. and Mrs. Luther DeVore and children, Neil, Arlin, Dorence, Avalee, and the hosts.
Relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr and Mrs James C Browning at noon to celebrate Cecil Browning s birthday A two o clock meal featured a birthday cake baked by Mrs Browning Attendees included the Browning family Longwell Searcy Smith and Dudley families with several children from Humphreys and Chula The group spent the afternoon visiting and wishing many more happy birthdays.
Amanda Abigail Jones born July 6 1870 Sullivan County Missouri died October 9 1944 at her Winigan Missouri home aged 74 years 3 months 3 days. She moved to Linn County at age three joined Christian Church at thirteen married Frances M Cattey November 5 1887 had ten children one died March 1943 survived by husband nine children seven sons in law three daughters in law thirty seven grandchildren seven great grandchildren four sisters and many relatives. Funeral October 12 at 2 pm at the Christian Church Winigan Rev Leo Spurling officiating burial Price cemetery. Flower granddaughters Dorothy Garrison Lorane Cattey Frances Carter and Waverly Bailey. Pallbearers Earl Abbott Carl Farson Oral Carter Rolla Bailey George Morton Fred Jones.

AU BURN Journal reports Pvt. Ben F. Harmon, 37, of Kansas City Missouri, killed in France after being wounded July 30 and dying July 31. He leaves a wife and two children. his death follows another son lost in World War I. Major Harmon, chaplain at DeWitt Hospital, receives condolences from the community.

Members report strong early results with several teams exceeding quotas and key leaders like Seth Sidebottom, Clarence Stelplugh, and W. P. Brinkley driving momentum for farmer cooperation.
