The Browning Red Cross unit announces a fundraising sale on Saturday May 25 with Col J B Fleming as auctioneer. Residents are urged to donate items for soldiers and invited to attend, with a list of contributors and goods including cake corn pigs hens rugs stock food and money donations.
May 15 Camp Funston Kansas letter from Mrs A S Havens Brownings Missouri to her mother describes two weeks of rifle practice. The writer notes high scores on the first ranges and compares to Sgt Beard in a 300 yard prone firing test. She qualified for the National range and finishes listed as high scorer among 100 men before difficulties at longer distances.
Detention Camp No. 2 reports on April 5 1918. Everett Myers writes from Queenstown Ireland aboard ship signaling well condition and good rations. He mentions eight men from Missouri in his tent and describes school graduation and local contests back home including diplomas for Maria Rinehart Sylvia Martin and others. He vows to write often and asks family to send news and letters while awaiting further orders.
The Electric Theatre in Monnci night hosted a four act drama by the Dudie Red Cross chapter near Greet City. Cast included Aurelia Brumbaugh as Dollie Travers Tae Page as Tom Deering and Ada Santford as Aurelia Brumbaugh amid a large crowd. thirty dollars were raised between Dudley and B Cross chapters.
Dr D B Hunter purchased the residence of RO Gibson last week after inquiring about price. He plans improvements including repainting and underpinning and may dig a basement after moving in. Hunter was long involved in local business.
A Red Cross meeting is scheduled at the M E Church in Browning on Friday 24th 1988. The event invites community members to join in planning and charity work.
