From Camp Humphreys Virginia dated May 5 the writer reports a fine day and no crutch use. He notes a large parade with engineer companies marching to a platform, secretary Baker delivering an address and a 30 foot flag rising on an observation tower. He mentions a water famine and a planned trip to the river with peers.
Adam Ross Linhart born April 4 1833 in Allegheny County Pennsylvania died May 9 1918 in Browning Missouri at age 85. He moved to Missouri in 1854 lived near North Salem then northwest of Browning near Scottsville before 1915 moving to Browning. Survived by second wife Margaret Ann Smith and children Viola Freshman and Oscar Linhart. Brothers and sisters named. Civil War veteran and longtime member of M E Church Browning. Large turnout at funeral with scripture reading and burial at Hoover Cemetery. Y M C A wartime notices follow about canteen work and troop support in France and in camps at home.
An official Y M C A announcement states American troops in France receive full comforts and assistance during shell fire. The report notes more than 260 troops are benefiting from National War Work Council efforts as the front lines endure heavy bombardment.
Susie Emmaline Breeding daughter of Mr and Mrs W P Breeding born June 17 1893 died May 4 1918. She leaves father mother four sisters two brothers and was converted in 1915 under Rev A L Pipes. Funeral at Henry cemetery with Rev Lambert and Rev Glenon.
The first of 1 025 locomotives will be delivered starting in July with monthly shipments through the year. Six standard types include one heavy and one light version in each, weighing 290000 to 540000 pounds, costing about 60000000 dollars in total.
The Railroad Administration moves toward uniform locomotives and five standard freight car types. An order for 100,000 cars is placed with an expected cost of 250 to 500 million dollars. More steel cars are under negotiation to expand this standard fleet.

The annual reading and spelling contests were held at the Electric Theatre Monday night. For years Mr. B. D. Bolling has awarded a beautiful gold medal to the top speller from grades five and six. This medal is highly sought as twenty three competitors participated.
Announcement in this issue of the Leader Record states E. E. Shoop as candidate for Sullivan County recorder, subject to Republican voters at the August primary. The incumbent, praised for efficiency, previously defeated an opponent in 1916 by a large majority and is noted for his personable campaigning.

Last Sunday at noon at the Graham home south of Green City, the second marriage in 33 days united Bessie Graham and Everett Lambert of North Salem, Mo. Rev. J. A. Foutch officiated. A sumptuous dinner followed as friends celebrate the couple starting life on a nearby farm.
