Rape as Pasture for Short On-Good-Ground Season
Farmers facing limited pasture this season should consider planting rape as a pasture crop. It compares to clover in value, requires about 6 pounds per acre, and costs roughly 30 to 40 cents per acre. Ground should be prepared with a compact seed bed and a light mulch, with rape ready to pasture at 10 to 12 inches high, typically after grain pastures have peaked. Sheep and hogs thrive on rape pasture.

Quick Forages May Replace Corn In Drought Relief
J W Burch in Missouri says crops other than corn may be planted on land held out of corn under the 1935 corn hog contract and will often prove superior for quick feed relief. Land so held cannot be planted to corn for fodder, but other forage crops are allowed, aiding drought response with earlier maturation and potentially higher quality feed. Atlas Large is noted as yielding more forage or silage than corn with high feeding value.
