Checks totaling 31000 are arriving to Linn County farmers through the County Office. Parson Creek Jefferson Bucklin and Marceline townships have signed applications in January with others in February. State audit delays may push receipts to March. Injured in Elgin Car Crash Involving Ovid Atkins
Ovid Atkins son of Mrs. Virgie Haggard and swimming instructor at St. Charles Community house, was severely cut when his car collided with a wagon on Route 25 five miles south of Elgin. Mrs. Clara Fidler, a W P A worker riding with him, died from injuries. The driver failed to see the wagon until 20 feet away due to glare from oncoming lights. Atkins is reported to be recovering nicely.

A practical method to broadcast Korean Lespedera or other legumes now as frost lifts. Extension agents advise alternating seeds for strong germination and suggest adding legumes to timothy fields last fall. Lespedera may graze about two weeks after small grain harvest with ACP payments possible in 1937. Oats used as nurse crops should seed with oats and be lightly covered. Columbia and Fulghum varieties suit best.
