Hoover Cemetery to be Improved This Year

A meeting elected a new Hoover cemetery board led by Herbert Bailey R A Thurlo and Allison Johnson with Pearle Thurlo as secretary treasurer. They plan to recondition the yard by straightening monuments marking unmarked graves leveling ground for a power mower and building a cemetery road. Cliff Peterson will handle maintenance and a $500 goal is set with women contributors named for the finance committee.

Meadville Jr. Legion Overcomes Browning In Tight 5-3 Game

The Meadville junior team beat Browning 5 to 3 last Sunday at Meadville in wet conditions. Young Carter pitched all nine innings with 10 strikeouts while Meadville’s pitcher fanned eight. Next Sunday Browning visits home for another game.

Died at Unionville Youth Lester Childers Rites Held

Lester Childers son of Mr and Mrs Emmett Childers died Wednesday of last week at the Unionville home and was buried Saturday. The Browning area residents had lived here years ago. Mr Childers operated a local grocery. The young man had suffered poor health for some time.

R-1 Linn County School Board Meets in Special Session

The R-1 Linn County School Board met in a May 29 special session at Browning to award bus route contracts. Nile Bauer and Olen Clapp will transport Shelby area pupils, with Monroe, Fred Lambert, and Verlan Lambert hired for various Browning east, west, and north routes. Construction movers Lytell will relocate Lee Grantsville and Pierce buildings to Browning grounds to alleviate crowding.

Grantsville Homemakers Club Meeting Report

Mrs Sylva Street hosted the Grantsville Homemakers Club on Thursday May 25 at two o clock. The meeting opened with a song led by president Mrs Nellie Barrows and included poems a safety pin contest a pink and blue shower and a May June birthday party committee. Carter Named Member of Omicron Delta Kappa Society

Howard Carter of the University of Iowa has been chosen as a member of the Omicron Delta Kappa Society the highest honorary organization open to the entire university. Fourteen outstanding men are chosen annually for scholarship leadership and social activity with Carter as the first from the college of medicine to receive this honor.

Brown High seniors tour Lake Taneycomo trip

Eight Brown High School seniors plus two sponsors traveled May 21 to Lake Taneycomo Missouri. They breakfasted in Chillicothe and dined in Buffalo before riding and sunbathing at the lake. The group visited Jefferson City sites including the State Capitol and Penitentiary before returning home Saturday evening.

Egg Purchasing Program Continues Through July August

The Production and Marketing Administration of the U.S. Department of Agriculture continues the dried egg purchase program for July and August. Producers receive at least 25 cents per dozen or 27 cents delivered to the plant. Vendors must certify they paid these prices in surplus areas.
