Death of Charlie D. Johnson Follows Horse Accident
Charlie Daniel Johnson 49 died Tuesday night after a horse fell on him Sunday while he rode in a field north of Roger Missouri. Born January 23, 1893 near Green City he married Maggie Harris in 1914 and Vera Coffman later, with Edith Seaman his widow. Survived by children Burr Darian and Gwenith plus siblings and relatives. services held July 25 at 2:00 pm in Green City cemetery per The Green City Press.

Kansas City Missouri July 24 1942 Dear Mr Editor this office has an instruction from the Commissioner of Internal Revenue to publicize the Federal Use Tax on motor vehicle stamps for public highway use The tax is due on first use and is five dollars per year starting July 1 1942 Those using vehicles without stamps face a 25 fine and or thirty days in jail for failure to affix the stamp Stamps for July may be purchased from the local post office but after July 31 stamps for July cannot be bought locally and must be bought from this office Delinquent purchases will be pursued The letter is signed by Dan M Nee Collector Internal Revenue Also notes Sunday dinner guests and travel plans for local residents with funeral attendance referenced.

Miss Barbara Rottmann received Eskimo moccasins mailed from Anchorage Alaska on July 11 and arriving July 20. Her brother Sgt Tony Rottmann in the U S Army sent the deer skin soles and fur upper. The gift marks the first mail from him in weeks and relates to her family in Carrollton Missouri. Also noted are school operetta preparations at Kirksville Teachers College Greenwood Demonstration School with Miss Mahala Kille overseeing art class design.
