Willis vs Browning case grants new trial in Kansas City

Senator Fields received notice that the Willis versus City of Browning case was remanded for a new trial. Assistants Sen Hudson and Col Miller of Chillicothe aided in the case. In the first trial the jury could not decide, the second trial awarded Willis 5000 dollars, and the city’s attorneys remained confident despite the appeal.

Blizzard Buries Roads In Eight Inch Snowfall

Saturday dawned with a rare blizzard in this region as eight inches of snow covered the ground. The temperature plunged below zero and winds piled drifts high, hindering travel by noon.

Two carriers E M and Loren Vincent pressed along routes until forced back by deep drifts. Vincent faced drifts higher than his horses backs while Neely found drifts taller than fences and could not go farther. The day was the worst winter yet with a sparse Browning crowd and a lonely scene.

Browning Missouri Enacts Snow on Sidewalks Ordinance

The Browning city board passes an ordinance requiring property owners or occupiers to clear snow from sidewalks within 24 hours after snowfall. Violators face a misdemeanor charge with fines from one to ten dollars and daily separate offenses for each day snow remains. The ordinance takes effect after passage and approval on February 5 1912.

A Good Man Gone James Wood of Linneus Dies

The sad news reached Linneus last Wednesday that James Wood died at his home of pneumonia. Born in England in 1829, he lived east of Cora in Sullivan county and was an early settler. He served on the Union side in the Civil War and later resided in Browning before moving to the county seat. He leaves a widow and several children.

Obituary of Dorcia Stufflebean of North Salem Mo

Dorcia Stufflebean born near North Salem Missouri in 1856 died at Browning Missouri on Wednesday January 1 1912. She married Charles Hannon in 1875 and had three children two died in infancy the third Mrs. Oley Hall survives. Mr. Hannon died in 1906. She joined the Baptist church in youth and in 1894 joined the M E church at North Salem. Besides her daughter she leaves three brothers and one sister all present except two brothers who could not attend. Funeral services were by Rev. Potter at North Salem with burial in the nearby cemetery.

Protracted M E Church Meeting Ends with Conversions

The meeting at M E C S led by Rev Potter and Rev Campbell closed last Wednesday night. Thirty two professed conversion thirty joined the church and four joined the M E church. Evangelist Campbell delivered convicting sermons. Rev Potter is in his third year here with seventy six accessions during that period.

Drainage Meeting Returns From Linneus Enthusiastic

W R Haggard attended the Linneus drainage meeting and reports strong talks by engineers. The next gathering will be in Linneus on February 17 with Mr Jacoby an engineer from Kansas U S Department of Agriculture Springfield set to speak.
