Linn County Extension Records 1985 Progress Report
Agricultural Extension services in Linn County show cost under one mill per contract with over two thousand farm families benefiting in 1985. Highlights include 1356 meetings with 25 806 in attendance, 17418 office calls, 244 farm visits, 805 personal letters, 371 circulars, and 193 news stories. 4-H clubs grew to 36 with 290 members and 1800 attendees at a major achievement program. women’s clubs rose to 33 with 724 members and notable demonstrations and sales, plus soil conservation and seed procurement efforts coordinated with Farm Bureau and county agents.

Sunshine Workers Club Meets For All Day Quilt Event
The Sunshine Workers Club met with Mrs Lois Rulon for an all day session with twelve members and eleven visitors. They quilted two projects a flower garden and friendship quilt. At noon hostess provided Thanksgiving decorated dinner. At two o clock Mrs Pearcy Cordray chaired the meeting opening with Blessed Assurance. Thanksgiving Day at the Shipp Home
The Shipp residence hosted relatives for Thanksgiving with a large dinner featuring goose and chicken. The gathering honored Mr. and Mrs. Victor Taylor who wed on the 27th. Accident Ends in Tragedy as Hunter Fires on Sons
Nova Taylor and his two sons were out hunting when Nova accidentally shot both boys with a shot gun. One boy sustained head and chest wounds while the other had a throat wound. Shots were No 4 chilled. Dr. Becker sent the boys to Kirksville for X rays. They were about twenty steps from their father when the accident occurred.

Austin couple to seek new location near Lake of the Ozarks
Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Austin left Sunday for Jefferson City to visit Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Parkins. Mr. Austin sold his barber shop here and will search for a new location likely at Lake of the Ozarks tourist camps. He is a respected barber and craftsman and will be missed by local business friends.

Young Couple Married at Brookfield November 27 1935
Miss Carolee Fleming daughter of Mr and Mrs C B Fleming of near Purdin and Mr Raymond McCrary son of Mr and Mrs Nelson McCrary southwest of Purdin were married on Wednesday evening November 27 1935 at the home of Rev Coran of Brookfield. The double ring ceremony was performed by Rev Coran. They were accompanied to Brookfield by Mr and Mrs Kennet Guyer and Mr and Mrs Charles Glen Gooch. After the ceremony they were met at the bride’s uncle and aunt's home in Linneus by relatives and served ice cream and cake. The bride and groom graduated from Purdin High School in 1933. She has taught school and was employed at Pleasant Point this year. he farms with his father. They will reside with their parents until spring when they plan to secure a farm. Thanksgiving Day dinner honored the newlyweds. Relatives present included J B Fleming and Mr and Mrs John Myers of Linneus and many others. Edward F Williams sang I Love You Truly and Somewhere A Voice is Calling.

Attorney U A House of Laclede Remembered
U A House died at his home in Laclede on November 29 after a heart attack. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Laclede with the Masonic fraternity, led by H R Mason of Marceline. House, born in Lewis county seventy one years ago, practiced law in Sumner and Milan before settling in Laclede. He held all Masonry chairs and was a respected lawyer and Republican activist.
