Turkey Shoot Draws Large Crowd and Wins

The American Legion Turkey Shoot at Browning drew a large crowd with 17 turkeys 3 geese and 4 ducks won. George Prather provided blue rock targets while Guy Warner Dr Bohrer and Dr Becker competed with Warner winning after a five shot tiebreaker. The event was peaceful profitable and may become an annual sport for local sportsmen.

Grinding Demonstration Draws Crowds at Reinhard Brothers

The Reinhard Brothers held a grinding demonstration at their implement house last Friday and Saturday. About fifty people attended to grind wheat and corn and to see in the ear or shock fodder oats timothy and clover ground by two hammermill grinders. George and Ralph aided by showing the machines’ capabilities from dawn till night.

Farmers Visit Bethany Soil Erosion Experimental Farm

A Sullivan county farmer delegation visited the Soil Erosion Experimental Farm at Bethany and the adjacent Big Creek Watershed last Friday to study erosion control methods. Demonstration plots show corn grown year round erodes about 60 tons per acre on an 8 percent slope, while bluegrass erodes 0.3 tons per acre, with methods emphasizing strip farming contour cultivation terraces and sod farming.

Farmers Store Buys A Store At Humphreys Humphreys

The Farmers Store of the city has purchased the Scott store in Humphreys from Mrs. Scott. Lyle Ingraham will run the new store with help from Mrs. Scott. The Humphreys location near the post office will integrate with Farmers Store buying power to offer lower prices. Officers named include Ray Bennett president and Chas Johns vice president. The first meeting November 14 featured quilting and plans for a Thanksgiving event at the church. Visitors included several local families and members.
