Missouri Votes Wet in 4 to 1 Victory Across State

Missouri joined the wet ranks by a four to one margin to repeal the eighteenth amendment. Large cities favored repeal while rural areas showed less interest, with Browning dry precincts and Sullivan County voting dry by about four hundred. Local community members from Shelby Detroit and nearby areas are listed among attendees. The club plans to meet again Thursday August 31 with Miss Lavenia Linhart.

Stitch and Chatter Club Celebrates First Anniversary with Quilt Show

The Stitch and Chatter Club marked its first anniversary with 33 members and 102 visitors including guests from five neighborhood clubs. A quilt show featured Birthday Quilts, prizewinners Ethel Bennett Alma Browning and Vesta Elliott, and attendees gathered at Browning Park for the event and dinner.

Jerome Reunion at White Oak Church Despite Bad Weather

The Jerome reunion gathered at White Oak church on Sunday with Rev. Noel Coram of Kirksville delivering a fine message. Attendees included Walter Jerome and family from Purdin, and numerous Jerome relatives from nearby towns despite rain and threatening skies. The group enjoyed a substantial dinner, noted two family members having passed since last year, and invited all to attend next year on the third Sunday in August.

Family Dinner Brings Wide Family Group Together

On August 20 a large family dinner was held at the Cotter country home with 56 attendees. Guests included Mrs. Laura Fields of Tulare California and Mr. and Mrs. Jesse L. Moore of St. Louis, along with Pernita Moore Gooch and her children. The event marked a long-awaited gathering despite bad weather with a cafe style noon dinner and an afternoon of games, music, and visiting.

Enterprise Reunion Is Ruined By Rain At Park Picnic

Former students and teachers of Enterprise school gathered for their annual reunion at the park but rain ruined the noon meal and forced a hasty retreat. A planned program at the church was substituted, and the next annual picnic was set for the third Sunday in August with Roy Calhoun as president and Lola Lantz as secretary-treasurer.

Wire Stolen From Harvey and Neet Warehouse

An estimated 12 to 15 bales of barb wire were stolen from the Harvey and Neet hardware warehouse late Friday night or early Saturday. The burglar backed a vehicle to the rear door, pried it open, and left with the wire, abandoning three to four bales. Police are pursuing the suspects, and the piece suggests hiring a night watchman to deter future robberies.
